2024 Admissions

Admissions Decisions

IMPORTANT► Decisions rendered by the MDCM Admissions Committee are final and not subject to appeal.

Final decisions are released by electronic mail on the day the decision is issued and confirmed in the Applicant Portal. Candidates may also view their decision letter in the Applicant Portal.

Decisions for applicants who are interviewed

For applicants who are invited to interview, there are three possible outcomes: Admit, Waitlist, Refuse

Admit

In each applicant cohort, a first round of offers is made to the number of applicants that corresponds exactly to the available number of places for that cohort. The Undergraduate Medical Admissions Office does not 'over-offer' for the designated number of available places in its medical programs. For example, if there are 92 available places for the Med-P Qualifying Year, the top 92 applicants will receive offers of admission. These applicants will have a period of 2 weeks in which to respond to the offer of admission.

Waiting List

The Undergraduate Medical Admissions Office retains a number of applicants on the waiting list for each applicant cohort; this number is based on patterns of offers accepted and declined in each applicant cohort over the past few years. We do not release ranking information to applicants on the waiting list.

Offers of admission to applicants on the waiting list are made as and when places become available (e.g., when first-round offers are declined). For example, if 3 of 92 first round Med-P offers are declined, then 3 offers will be made to students on the Med-P waiting list. Depending on the timing of the offer of admission from the waiting list, and in the interest of fairness to other applicants on the waiting list, the period of time allotted to accept or decline is shortened.

Because these offers are contingent on the decisions of other applicants, it is impossible to predict if and when places will become available. Waitlisted applicants should be aware that offers can happen at any time and can occur very late in the summer, even on the day before (or of) registration. For these reasons, maintaining up to date contact information is crucially important.

Refuse

Applicants who are interviewed will receive final decisions or waitlist offers at the same time as admissions offers are released.

A small number of applicants will be retained on a waiting list for interviews, should an interview slot become available (if an invited applicant declines). If no interview slot becomes available, these applicants will receive an official notice of refusal shortly after the interview dates for their applicant cohort.

Decisions for applicants who are not interviewed

For applicants who are not invited to interviews, there are two possible outcomes: Waitlist for interviews or Refuse

Waiting list for interviews

A small number of applicants will be retained on a waiting list for interviews, should an interview slot become available (if an invited applicant declines). If no interview slot becomes available, these applicants will receive an official notice of refusal shortly after the interview dates for their applicant cohort.

Refuse

Applicants who are not invited to interviews will be informed as early as possible; a number of these decisions will be released before the interview dates for the relevant applicant cohort.
