Registration & Orientation

PROGRAM START: AUGUST 20, 2024    MANDATORY ATTENDANCE

  • We will be using this page as a means to transmit official information. You will also receive emails for important information or deadlines at your new McGill email address. Email is an official means of communication for the university. 
  • Action required: Once you have accepted your offer of admission, set up your McGill Username and Password and access your McGill email (Instructions).    
  • The Orientation Dates are August 20-22 August. This is a mandatory event and so make sure to mark it in your calendars now! 

  • You are required to be available to be physically present in person as of August 20, 2024.  


Program Registration

Registration for undergraduate medical education takes place in three stages, outlined below:

Stage 1: Online Registration for Courses (via Minerva)

  • All students entering the four-year MDCM program must register online (Minerva) for the full year of courses (Fall 2024, Winter 2025, Summer 2025).
  • Registration is between June 3, 2024 to July 12, 2024.
  • For students admitted after July 12, 2024, please register for Fall and Winter courses no later than August 14, 2024 and the UGME office will take care of Summer 2025 registration.
  • Please note that after August 14, 2024 a late fee will be charged for students who have not registered for at least 1 course.
  • Only registered students can attend Orientation. 
  • Interprofessional Education courses
    • Students who took IPEA 500 and 501 at McGill are automatically granted an exemption from repeating these courses. This is explained in the form linked to instructions in English or French 
    • Students who completed similar courses at a University other than McGill, please submit the form linked to instructions in English or French and include course outline(s) to the Office of Interprofessional Education (OIPE) at the following address: ipecourses.med [at] mcgill.ca by June 30. For students admitted after June 30, the documents must be submitted by the first day of class.

Stage 2: Compulsory Orientation (beginning August 20)

  • Compulsory orientation takes place on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.  Failure to attend any portion of the orientation may result in the cancellation of your registration. 
  • The Montreal and Campus Outaouais schedules for orientation will be posted here once available.
  • All admitted students are required to be in attendance for all orientation days, otherwise they are subject to de-registration from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. 
  • You will also receive information about social activities for new students, interest groups, and class elections organized by the Medical Students' Society (MSS).

Stage 3: Registration with the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ)

  • Details regarding registration with the CMQ will be provided at Orientation, including when you will receive an e-mail from the CMQ allowing you to register in their online system. This is generally shortly after orientation; McGill's deadline for you to register is September 30th.
  • In the meantime, take this opportunity to gather all of your documentation and get them certified.
  • Obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct from your local Canadian police service. New procedure as of Fall 2024, the CMQ requires all incoming medical students to submit their own certificate of good conduct police check. The certificate must have been issued no earlier than 4 months before you submit your CMQ registration.  Read the PDF icon communication_police_check_july_16.pdf for more information.
