Call for Proposals – Support to Shared Research Resource Facilities (SRRFs)


Objectives of the Funding

McGill releases a portion of Infrastructure Operating Funds (IOF) received from major CFI grants to Faculties in support of the maintenance and operations of major CFI-funded facilities. 

Within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, we aim to fund campus-based Core Facilities and Shared Platforms that benefit a large number of users. Priority is given to applications that align with our Strategic Research Priorities

Applications must demonstrate:

  • A need for the operating/maintenance funding,
  • The ongoing value of the facility,
  • Usage statistics,
  • Scientific impact, and
  • A long-term strategy for financial sustainability.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be faculty members holding a primary appointment at one of the Departments or Schools within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. for facilities based on McGill campus.
  • Instrumentation used at Core Facilities must have been purchased through CFI funding (Innovation Fund, Leading Edge Fund, or Leaders Opportunity Fund), with no remaining IOF available.

Eligible Expenses

Funding requests are for operating and other eligible expenses, including:

  1. Salaries of HQP directly involved in operation and maintenance of CFI-funded infrastructure, extending to software developments and data management related to core unit operations, with an encouragement for open-science practices,
  2. Extended warranties and service contracts not included in original CFI budget,
  3. Maintenance and repairs (excluding upgrades and replacements), and/or,
  4. Supplies and consumables related to operation and maintenance of CFI-funded infrastructure.

Direct costs of research, student stipends, clerical support salaries, or travel expenses are ineligible.

Amount and Period of Funding

The total amount of funding available per Unit is $25,000/year over 3 years.

Annual Report/Application

Units currently funded through this program are requested to produce an annual report detailing how the funds were utilized and the benefits accrued to the users.
