How the Program Works

If you've decided to participate in the program, please read the Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment.

 

Next, follow these steps:

Staff/Faculty Mentors

  1. Complete the Faculty/Staff Mentor Application Form.
  2. Once you receive an email notifying that you have been paired with a Mentee, email your Mentee and initiate the conversation.
  3. Decide on a mutually convenient meeting time.
  4. Before meeting, read the First Meeting Checklist.
  5. Remember to bring the Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment form to your first meeting so you and your mentee can review and sign it together.
  6. Scan and undergrad.mentoring [at] mcgill.ca (email us) your signed Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment form.

Graduate Student Mentors

  1. Complete the Graduate Student Application Form.
  2. Once you receive an email notifying that you have been paired with a Mentee, email your Mentee and initiate the conversation.
  3. Decide on a mutually convenient meeting time.
  4. Before meeting, read the First Meeting Checklist.
  5. Remember to bring the Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment form to your first meeting so you and your mentee can review and sign it together.
  6. Scan and grad.mentoring [at] mcgill.ca (email us) your signed Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment form.

Alumni Mentors

Mentees

  1. Complete the Mentee Application Form. If you are looking for something specific in a mentor, please indicate this under "Special Considerations".
  2. You will receive an email notifying you that you have been paired with a Mentor. Their background and contact information will be included in this email. Review it so you are ready when they email you to set up the first meeting. 
  3. Decide on a mutually convenient meeting time.
  4. Before meeting, read the First Meeting Checklist. You may want to consider topic(s) that you would like to talk about with your mentor in advance or even bring a list of questions that you may have to your first meeting. 
  5. Remember to bring the Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment form to your first meeting so you and your mentor can review and sign it together.
