The McGill Institute for Aerospace Engineering (MIAE) plays the leading role as the voice of aerospace engineering within McGill University.  It’s where education, research, and training come together to create a culture of aerospace innovation and excellence.

The MIAE promotes McGill’s aerospace expertise, and lobbies for collaborative projects with industry, research institutes, and universities around the world. With over 40 professors actively engaged in aerospace R&D, McGill boasts a research capability spanning a variety of disciplines, including mechanical, materials, civil, and electrical and computer engineering, as well as aerospace law.

McGill students who are members of the MIAE participate in events and activities including industry tours, aerospace conferences, aerospace design team challenges, as well as paid industry internships. The internship experience bridges the classroom and the workplace, enabling students to develop essential work skills, as well as contacts that will help them land future employment in the aerospace sector.

With the accelerating growth of aerospace as an international and multi-faceted industry, McGill is in a unique position to respond to current and future challenges.  Montreal is one of the world’s foremost aerospace hubs. The Montreal aerospace industry is the world’s 4th largest centre of aerospace manufacturing, and the only area where an entire aircraft can be assembled from locally-manufactured components.

There is a strong interest both locally and internationally in McGill University as a provider of aerospace research, knowledge, and expertise. There is also a keen desire on the part of industry to hire McGill undergraduate and graduate students for internships and research projects, and graduated students for employment.

The proud mission of the MIAE is to serve and promote McGill’s stellar aerospace community, and showcase it to the world.
