Access Cards

Lenel access cards are assigned (as necessary) to casual staff, faculty on contract, Marianopolis students, as well as special status students: Anyone who is not a permanent employee or a student of McGill University. The Lenel card will grant you access (as needed) to areas where a card reader is installed instead of a lock.

A McGill student or staff ID card is issued to anyone who is a permanent employee or a student of McGill University. McGill ID cards grant you access (as authorized) to areas where a card reader is installed instead of a lock.

Permanent Lenel access card loans (if eligible)

A permanent loan of a Lenel access card is done when an individual needs access to an area on an ongoing basis for more than one month. Lenel access cards can only be picked up and signed for in person by the borrower. Lenel access cards will not be left in mail boxes nor will they be loaned to a proxy sent by the borrower.

Temporary Lenel access card loans

A temporary loan of a Lenel access card is done when an authorized individual needs access to an area for a limited amount of time. Lenel access cards can only be picked up in person by the borrower. Lenel access cards will not be left in mail boxes nor will they be loaned to a proxy sent by the borrower.

I Lost my Keys, my Lenel Access Card or my ID Card! What do I do?

IMMEDIATELY report the loss to the Building Director’s Office (514-398-8333) and Security Services (514-398-4556)

I'm Leaving, What do I do?

At graduation, retirement, or end of your employment contract, it is the borrower’s responsibility to return all keys and cards prior to departure from the University. Upon receipt of all borrowed keys and cards, deposits will be refunded where applicable. Failure to respond to the first overdue key notice will result in temporary deactivation of card* and or the person’s file will be flagged**.

*Deactivation of card is when a card will no longer grant you entrance to areas where you previously had access.

**File flagged is when a card becomes deactivated: course registration, library loan privileges, graduation registration, and card reader access are all suspended

The Building Director’s office has the right to veto any access authorization.

Assigned teaching studios and offices for faculty, students & visitors:

Only persons with written authorization may obtain a key to an assigned teaching studio.

Classroom loans for faculty:

Any faculty member may sign out a key when required.

Other key loans:

Permission to obtain access to other locations is based on an as needed basis.

If you do not return your keys and or cards, the Building Director’s office reserves the right to disable your id card without warning.

Visiting artists and researchers are permitted to sign out ensemble and classroom keys and the room must be booked on the Booking System.
