Research area: Beethoven’s Compositional Process

My research will focus on the genesis of Beethoven's Sonata for Piano, op. 111.  Through transcription of all available primary sources (sketches, autograph, original editions), I will retrace the author's day-to-day compositional practice. My philological research will yield a digital genetic edition using Ediroom tools and MEI encoding in collaboration with the Beethoven-Haus Archiv (Bonn, Germany) as part of the larger project, Beethovens Werkstatt: Genetic Textual Criticism and Digital Edition.
