Enriched Educational Opportunities: need-based bursary

• EEO Bursaries are high-quality off-campus mobility or other experiential opportunities which are officially recognized by the Faculty. These activities are deemed to foster self-development and help students transition successfully to the workplace or graduate studies.
• At the Schulich School of Music (SSoM), we endorse non-credit experiential learning activities for EEO purposes.
• Completed EEO activities will be added to your Co-Curricular Record (CCR). Students who have received an EEO Bursary from the Scholarships & Student Aid Office must provide Music Student Awards proof of completion of the faculty-endorsed activity for the EEO to be added to their CCR.

• Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) or Licentiate in Music (L.Mus.) program.
• Full-time or deemed full-time students (as per government aid programs, with a disability or with young dependent children) in your EEO term, or the term preceding the EEO term of activity.
• Students who are able to demonstrate financial need, e.g. a recipient of government student aid.
• Students seeking an EEO Bursary in support of a summer activity must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Be registered in at least one course for the Summer session
  • No Summer session BUT registered in the preceding Winter session AND be registered for the upcoming Fall session in the same degree/program

• Participation in international conferences
• Participation in recognized conferences festivals and academies, workshops, composition and research.
• Participation in recognized unpaid internships
• Other projects of demonstrable benefit to your education and professional development.

Note: One-on-one practical instruction is not deemed eligible for EEOs.

• You must obtain a letter of endorsement from SSoM in support of the EEO Bursary application.
• In order to obtain a letter of endorsement from SSoM, submit a Request for EEO Bursary endorsement letter.
• You may submit up to three requests for an EEO Bursary endorsement letter per semester.
• Once you have the letter of endorsement, submit an In-Course Financial Aid application on Minerva.
• Complete the EEO Budget Form (this form is found on the Scholarships & Student Aid website).
• The faculty endorsement letter for the EEO activity must be provided to the Scholarships & Student Aid Office.
• Go back to your application frequently! Important instructions and/or online decisions will be added to your application within two weeks of submission. You will receive a decision to your request for an endorsement letter within five (5) business days from the application deadline.

If approved, you will receive a letter of endorsement from Music Student Awards which you may present to the Scholarships & Student Aid Office when you apply for the EEO Bursary.

Note:

In the event you have been approved an EEO Bursary for an activity that will take place outside the greater region of Montreal, you will also be required to submit a Travel Registry in advance of your departure to attend the EEO-approved activity. The Travel Registry is an app that allows McGill to keep record of your travel plans endorsed by the Faculty so we can reach out to you in case of crisis in the destination you will be visiting.

Upon successful completion of the endorsed activity for which you receive an EEO Bursary, you must request the EEO activity to be recorded on your Co-Curricular Record (CCR). CCR is a document that recognizes a student’s involvement in learning opportunities outside the classroom.

To add the EEO activity to your CCR, submit the following documents to studentawards.music [at] mcgill.ca (subject: EEO%20-%20CCR) (Music Student Awards) within 30 days following the end of the sponsored activity:

1. Submit a summary report (at least 500 words) describing your experience in the endorsed activity.
2. Include proof of activity completion (e.g., registration email, certificate of program completion)
