I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ronald Postuma to the position of Director of the Division of Neurology, Department of Neurosciences, McGill University Health Centre.
Dr. Postuma’s appointment took effect on January 1, 2024, replacing Dr. Anne-Louise Lafontaine who served as Director since 2015. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Lafontaine for her commitment and leadership over the past nine years; from recruitment, to all our moves, to being a constant leader during COVID-19, we have given her a lot to do, and she has truly gone beyond.
Dr. Postuma is Professor at the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University whose clinical practice focuses on movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease, in particular. Dr. Postuma completed medical school at the University of Manitoba. He then completed a clinical research fellowship with internal medicine training at the University of Manitoba and the University of Melbourne. He conducted a neurology fellowship at McGill University, a movement disorders research fellowship at the University of Toronto and a masters in epidemiology at McGill University.
Dr. Postuma is internationally recognized for his work in early stages of Parkinson’s disease, including REM sleep behavior disorder, conducting clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease, and being author of diagnostic criteria for Parkinson’s disease. Currently, he is a clinical researcher and movement disorders neurologist treating patients with Parkinson's disease and related disorders. His research interest focuses upon Parkinson's disease, particularly on detecting early stages of disease, examining the impact of non-motor symptoms on disease subtype and prognosis, and testing new treatments for non-motor manifestations such as sleep disorders.
I am delighted that Dr. Postuma has agreed to accept this appointment and am confident that he will provide the necessary leadership and strategic direction for the Division of Neurology. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Postuma to his new position.
