Abstract: Research into the neural mechanisms of psychopathology is traditionally performed in dedicated clinical study samples that are necessarily modest in size, yet the recent availability of population data allows for a new lens on psychopathology research. In my talk I will cover several recent UK Biobank studies performed in my lab on the topics of heterogeneity in depression (e.g., https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.12.07.22283225), transdiagnostic disease classification (e.g., https://doi.org/10.1101/2024.04.15.589555), and related work (e.g., https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ynirp.2023.100163). More broadly, I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of population data in the context of psychopathology research.
