Collaborating with Mila, a community of researchers dedicated to scientific excellence and innovation

Mila x NeuroSphere Entrepreneurs' Night, a collaborative event presented by Mila Entrepreneurship Lab and NeuroSphere on December 5, 2023, featured insightful discussions with Mohamad Matout, founder of AvaTalk, Oualid Benkarim, founder of Brainscores and Charles Morissette, from Mila.

  • AVAtalk Technologies is pioneering an accessible approach to AVATAR therapy for treating auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia, a condition affecting one percent of the population.

  • Brainscores is a collaborative and AI-powered radiology platform designed to improve the diagnosis and management of common brain disorders such as epilepsy, brain tumors, and stroke.

Both founders benefited from the comprehensive support provided by NeuroSphere, McGill’s neuroscience accelerator powered by HBHL, which not only included financial assistance but also valuable insights throughout their entrepreneurial journey.

This event offered them the opportunity to discuss their experiences and insights with AI professionals who are particularly interested in entrepreneurship. Here are some takeaways:

  1. Step beyond your comfort zone: embrace discomfort and cultivate adaptability.

  1. Embrace uncertainty and pivot strategically: while your initial idea may be noteworthy, aligning with the evolving needs of your clientele is paramount.

  1. Recognize the parallels between research and entrepreneurship: both ways, you need to sell your ideas!

  1. Be vulnerable and ask for help, most people want to see you succeed.

Following the enlightening discussion, participants had the opportunity to engage in an interactive networking session. Attendees shared perspectives, exchanged ideas, and built connections within the Mila community and NeuroSphere’s members. The networking session was accompanied by a slice of pizza, fostering a relaxed and collaborative atmosphere.

We want to warmly thank Mila Entrepreneurship Lab and its team for their time and openness in this collaboration.
