Expert: Apple vows to resist FBI demand to crack iPhone

Published: 17 February 2016

"Tech giant Apple and the FBI appeared headed for a deepening confrontation Wednesday after the company’s chief pledged to fight federal demands to help mine data from an iPhone used by one of the shooters in December’s terrorist attacks in San Bernardino." (The Washington Post)

Benjamin Fung, Associate Professor, School of Information Studies, McGill University

"Lowering the security protection of any device implies increasing the risk of being hacked. This goes against the public interest. The FBI needs to figure out how to do it via other channels, but I do not see why Apple should lower the security standard of their products."
