Lab

  1. Lab Waste Reduction McGill The Lab Waste Reduction Project seeks to minimize the ecological footprint of research laboratories at McGill and to promote a more environmentally responsible approach to conducting research.
  2. MIT "Green" Alternatives Wizard. Replace hazardous chemicals with less hazardous ones. There are several which are relevant to procedures in our labs.

Reuse & Recycle

  1. Éco-Réno Accepts, buys and sells used (reusable) construction materials such as doors and windows.
  2. freecycle A grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills. The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,836 groups with 6,657,153 members across the globe.
  3. PC Recycle Reuse of some or recycling of all electronic products. There is a small fee for CRT televisions and monitors, printers and photocopiers.
  4. Recyc-Frigo Have your old (10 years or more) inefficient refrigerator or freezer picked up for free and receive $60 from Hydro-Quebec.
  5. Residential Organic Waste Pickup If you don't compost at home, for a small fee ($5/week) you can have your organic waste picked up and finished compost delivered to you.

Sustainability

  2. SSMU Environment. The environment page of the Students Society of McGill University. Includes The Plate Club (link found under 'Projects and Groups') which loans reusable dishes and cutlery to replace disposables at your event.

  1. Transport Myette Will do small moves by bike. Affordable and ecological.
