Professor Vang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and an Associate Member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University. She organizes the Immigration, Race and Ethnicity (IRE) workshop at McGill which aims to provide a home for faculty members, graduate students, and researchers from local universities and research centers in Montreal who are interested in issues of international migration, race and ethnicity. She is particularly interested in the role that neighborhoods play in shaping health outcomes for racial/ethnic minorities and her research has examined the association between infant health and neighborhood racial diversity, ethnic and immigrant enclaves, and racial residential segregation.

Research

Professor Vang's current research has been focusing on three main areas:

  1. Migration and health
  2. Racial/ethnic disparities in perinatal health
  3. Relationship between discrimination and health

She had also begun a new research project on Indigenous maternal infant health, in partnership with Cree and Inuit communities and organizations in Quebec. Professor Vang continues to work on various aspects of migration and immigrants’ integration in Canada, the United States, and Western Europe.
