Associate Provost (International)
The position of Associate Provost (International) was created in 2016, with a mandate to develop and implement the University’s international strategy. Prof. Oxhorn has particular responsibility for the development of strategic institutional partnerships, to facilitate opportunities for collaborative research and teaching, and to create opportunities for faculty of student mobility. The international team will also pursue development of on-campus and online opportunities for international learning and engagement.
Phil Oxhorn is also Professor in the Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on state-society relations, citizenship and democratization processes, with an emphasis on Latin America. His work addresses the challenges of improving the legitimacy of political democracies through reforms that allow for greater socio-economic inclusion. This has led to a current project on reconciliation and the rights of Indigenous peoples in Canada and Latin America.
