Social Media Use and Interpersonal Perception Accuracy in Romantic Relationships

Supervisor: Dr. Lauren Human

My name is Marilyne Dragon, and I worked this year with Dr. Lauren J. Human for my second Honours thesis project (PSYC 498D). My thesis is called Social Media Use and Interpersonal Perception Accuracy in Romantic Relationships. We looked at the association between social media use and accuracy in romantic relationships. More specifically, we examined the link between active and passive social media use and normative and distinctive accuracy. We found that using social media actively or passively did not significantly relate to how accurately people saw or were seen by their partner. Future research should look at these associations in other contexts (e.g., in emerging relationships).
