ARNOLD STEINBERG is a Montreal businessman and philanthropist, who is held in high regard for his lengthy record of service with numerous charitable, educational and cultural organizations. Currently, he serves as vice-chair of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research’s Governing Council.
Steinberg obtained a bachelor of commerce degree from McGill University and a MBA from Harvard University. He has had an impressive career in finance, holding many senior management positions and directorships with several Canadian companies, including Steinberg Inc., Ivanhoe Inc., Teleglobe Inc., Provigo Inc., and the Banque Nationale du Canada.
As well as being a leader in business, Steinberg is a passionate advocate for medical research. He was the founding chairman of Canadians for Health Research, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to engaging Canadian adults and youth in understanding health research issues, scientific processes and their impact, through education and advocacy. He was also board chairman of the McGill University-Montreal Children's Hospital Research Institute for 19 years.
He was the founding chairman of the McGill University Health Centre and is the former Chancellor of McGill University. Steinberg is a patron of the arts and served as a member of the executive committee of the Canada Council for the Arts. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 1993.
