All the activities for Journées de la Culture are free

Join the Redpath Museum in celebrating Quebec's Journées de la Culture ! This year, discover the rich collection of words hidden throughout the museum.

Taxonomy 101 from 12h30 to 14h30: How did our animals and plants earn their Latin names? Can you identify the unique traits of an unknown museum specimen and use them to name it? Join Let's Talk Science at McGill University and dive into various naming and classification techniques with this taxonomy matching game! Bilingual. No reservation necessary. Location: Museum Entrance Hall (first floor).

The World of Proverbs from 13h00 to 15h00: Have you ever heard the phrase: "The pen is mightier than the sword"? Did you know that it was a proverb?  Would you be able to recognize proverbs from different countries across Europe, Aisa and Africa? Join the Redpath Museum's curator Mrs. Annie Lussier to test your skills in a treasure hunt for proverbs in the World Cultures Gallery. Bilingual. No reservation necessary. Location: World Cultures Gallery (third floor).

Words are also crucial to researchers! They help name the artifacts and the fossils found in the field and identify the various tools used to dig them out. If you feel like getting your hands dirty, join us in the laboratory for Sieving for Small Fossils.

For other activities scheduled during Journées de la Culture, please see the museum's weekend events
