Definition of an Accident
An accident is defined as an event which is unforeseeable. Therefore, wear and tear does not meet the definition of an accident.
Water Damages
As soon as water damage is found, the Facilities Call Centre and Security should be contacted to document the leak or flood, to begin the cleanup and to determine damage to the fabric of the building, if any. If damages are extensive, our office may call on the services of restoration specialists, and an insurance adjuster.
A detailed list of any damaged items must be prepared for our office. Testing the integrity of the equipment should be performed by in-house technicians, where possible. We should be informed if any items need to be sent to the manufacturer for testing. Written reports are required whether testing is performed in-house or by the manufacturer. Two estimates are required for any items that are deemed beyond repair. Upon receipt, we will notify you as soon as your estimates are approved.
Departmental or Unit accounts absorb all charges. Once the repair or replacement process is completed, copies of all invoices should be sent to our office along with a completed Claim Document Summary Form. Fire Damages
When a fire has occurred and building occupants are able to determine the extent of the damages incurred, a detailed list of replacement costs should be forwarded to our office. We will notify you as soon as your estimates are approved.
