School of Information Studies PhD graduate Rhiannon Gainor awarded international fellowship for thesis on Competitive Intelligence

Recent McGill School of Information Studies graduate Rhiannon Gainor (PhD ’14) has been awarded a 2014 Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. This prestigious honour is awarded annually to up to six recipients in an international competition by Beta Phi Mu, the International Library and Information Studies Honor Society. This marks the second time a PhD student from the School has won the award.

The objective of Rhiannon’s thesis, "Measuring Competitive Intelligence Outcomes and Impact" was to examine how intelligence experts and senior managers using competitive intelligence perceive the outcomes and impact of intelligence on decision making and other organizational activities. The thesis is highly original as it is the first time that the perceptions of these two groups were studied. This research advances knowledge by contributing to a better conceptualization of Competitive Intelligence (CI) outcomes and impact.
