As part of one of the highest-ranking research-intensive universities in North America, the McGill School of Information Studies undertakes innovative interdisciplinary research and furthers the expanding field of information studies.
Research Areas
Faculty members at the School of Information Studies are engaged in the broad research area of human-information interaction. Although our research is far-reaching, many projects fall within the following core research areas: human-computer interaction, information behaviour & services, and information & knowledge management, with a focus on: data mining, digital curation, information classification, information preservation, knowledge management, multisensory information, and user experience.
Our research is highly interdisciplinary; faculty members have ongoing collaborations with other McGill units including the Faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Medicine, and Music, as well as collaborations with colleagues at other institutions in Montreal, across Canada, and internationally.
In addition, there are several research labs and groups affiliated with the School.
Research Dissemination
The School shares results of research with the broader community through scholarly publications, speaking engagements, conferences, colloquia, and research seminars.
Our research seminars highlight current research on a wide range of topics related to the field of Information Studies. Students, alumni, members of the McGill community, and the general public are warmly invited to attend. Presentations and events are announced on our homepage.
For annual compilations of books, book chapters, articles, conference proceedings, posters, and panels produced by members of the School, please visit our Publications page.
