Research Study: Patients’ and Researchers’ perspective on the impact of Patient Engagement in Rehabilitation Research

 

Purpose of the study: We would like to hear from the experts in the field about their perspectives on the impact of Patient Engagement (PE) in rehabilitation research.

Participation Eligibility: Patient partners and Researchers in Canada who have engaged in rehabilitation research.

Eligibility criteria for researchers: Researchers with a minimum of two years of experience in conducting research in the field of PE in rehabilitation research. The researchers can be involved in any area of rehabilitation research (i.e., neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular rehabilitation).

Eligibility criteria for patient partners: Patient partners with a minimum of two years of experience in conducting research in the field of PE in rehabilitation research. Patient partners can be involved in any area of rehabilitation research (i.e., neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular rehabilitation).

Methods used: Participants eligible and willing to participate will be contacted via email to participate in a 60–90-minute interview on zoom.

We are studying the way that we learn a motor skill using a new technology which uses robotics and virtual reality. Participation in this project consists of 3 sessions with our new technology. The first and second sessions occur on consecutive days (each lasting about an hour), followed by a rest day, and then we will have the final session (this session will last about 2 hours). You will be compensated $20 per session for your participation. Does this sound like something you would be interested in?

The inclusion criteria for the study are:

  • 30 to 75 years of age
  • Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
  • Are able to provide informed consent

The exclusion criteria are:

  • Major neurological/neuromuscular/orthpaedic/pain problems that interfere with task performance
  • Major cognitive deficits
  • Depression
