A Hub for Humanistic Social Science

The Yan P. Lin Centre for the Study of Freedom and Global Orders in the Ancient and Modern Worlds brings together more than forty scholars from across the university. It is dedicated to studying social structures, social transformations, and ideas about social values from across eras and in regions around the world. The Yan P. Lin Centre provides a unified home for the humanistic social sciences, allowing for collaborations across the Faculties of Arts, Engineering, and Law, drawing on disciplines ranging from history, classics, architecture, political science, and philosophy.

Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences

Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Health Innovation

The Faculty of Dentistry’s redesigned PhD program in Oral Health Sciences was fully approved in December 2020. The new program connects trainees with researchers across disciplines and provide them with training in numerous health-related fields and methodologies. Faculty members and students are involved in numerous interdisciplinary collaborations with other Centres of Excellence on campus.

Integrated Education for a Changing World

The Faculty of Law offers two joint programs in collaboration with the Desautels Faculty of Management and the School of Social Work: the Master of Business Administration (MBA) with integrated Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.), designed to integrate common and civil law training with advanced management education, and the Master of Social Work (MSW) with integrated B.C.L./J.D., designed for students interested in transcending academic boundaries in social justice issues and in gaining an enriched perspective.

In 2021, Desautels launched a new Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management, a fully online joint program between the Desautels Faculty of Management and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. This program is designed for physician leaders and other healthcare professionals who are looking for managerial skills which will impact the quality, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility of healthcare delivery.

Redefining Music Training

Stemming from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), the Performance Science Initiative is a new initiative at the Schulich School of Music that bring together a multidisciplinary team who are developing strategies for the enhancement of performance skills and healthy learning, providing music students with an optimized and tailored training environment. The initiative aims to create new knowledge and challenge assumptions of existing performance practice, and apply healthy strategies drawing parallels and highlighting differences between performance domains, from the arts to business to medicine and science.
