Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
Advancing the Understanding of PhD Career Trajectories
Launched in 2019, TRaCE McGill is a university wide project meant to track the career outcomes and pathways of McGill PhD alumni who graduated between 2008 and 2018. TRaCE McGill has gathered statistical information on over 4,500 PhD graduates and interviewed over 300 of them across all Faculties. The project’s focus on both quantitative and qualitative knowledge is unique and shows how a doctoral degree can lead to a multiplicity of successful, socially valuable, and personally fulfilling careers in a variety of sectors both inside and outside academia.

Networking across Quebec Food Industry Communities
Since 2017, the RITA Consortium brings together agri-food companies around the same table with researchers to innovate: The RITA Consortium is an inclusive Québec platform to establish collaboration between research institutions and the food processing industry.

Engaging with Quebec Communities
Adopted under the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada umbrella in 2019, the Minor in Quebec Studies and Community-Engaged Learning fosters interdisciplinary studies in Quebec history, culture, and society, and offers students the opportunity to participate in community-engaged internships within Montreal.

Inclusive Education and Community Outreach
The Faculty of Dentistry increased exposure of dental students and residents to a variety of learning opportunities and training with underserved populations, e.g. First Nations, special needs groups, elderly, etc.
Education
Creating Collaborative Learning
In 2021, the Faculty of Education established the McGill-Trafalgar CoLab in partnership with Trafalgar School for Girls. The partnership aims to deliver a dynamic and collaborative learning environment where secondary school and university educators will work together to transform the classroom and the future of teaching and learning. It is the first of its kind in Canada, inspired by models at Oxford, Columbia, UCLA, and University of Chicago.
Engineering
Accessible Pathways to Engineering Education
Through the E-IDEA initiative, the Faculty of Engineering have developed a Youth Action & Outreach program, which collaborates with youth and teachers in high-school settings to support experiential, relationship-centered, responsive learning opportunities to create accessible pathways to higher education for diverse populations.
Law
Bringing Justice to those in need
In the Faculty of Law, the Legal Clinic Course allows work in community organizations and legal clinics providing information and assistance to socially disadvantaged individuals, under the supervision of a lawyer.
Management
Helping young Canadians become financially savvy
The Desautels Faculty, in collaboration with RBC Future Launch and The Globe and Mail, launched a unique online program entitled McGill Personal Finance Essentials in 2019. Targeting young adults, this national, free and bilingual course focuses on the important concepts needed to become financially literate and is taught entirely by Desautels faculty members.
Medicine and Health Sciences
Building healthcare capacity in French
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) launched McGill’s new Campus Outaouais, where the MDCM and Med-P Programs are delivered in French to help build health care capacity in the region. The Med-P Program is a collaboration involving the FMHS, Faculty of Science and Université du Québec en Outaouais.
Music
In the Heart of Montreal
The Montreal Heart of the City Piano Program provides free piano lessons to children living in underprivileged areas by bringing volunteer teachers into elementary schools. Each child receives a private music lesson in their school once a week, and practices regularly. The space is equipped with headphones and keyboards. In addition to music lessons, the program organizers facilitate events to enrich musical appreciation, and learning in general, including free concerts and recitals. Children also have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.

Supporting Indigenous Graduate Excellence
In support of the 52 Calls to Actions for Truth and Reconciliation at McGill, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies offers the Indigenous Graduate Excellence Recruitment Fellowship to Indigenous applicants who register in a graduate program at McGill.
Medicine and Health Sciences
Championing Progress in Global and Population Health
In 2018, the School of Population and Global Health launched the Victor Dzau and Ruth Cooper-Dzau Distinguished Lecture in Global and Population Health. Thanks to Dr. Dzau and Mrs. Cooper-Dzau, the global health community gathers on a yearly basis to celebrate the change-makers in global and population health.
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
Bannock Bread on the Menu
In the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the work of a M.Sc.A. candidate from the School of Human Nutrition, in collaboration with MUHC services, has resulted in the permanent addition of Bannock bread to the MUHC menu. Thanks to the initiative, First Nations and Inuit patients treated at the facility are now able to enjoy a traditional and comforting snack.
Arts
Embeding Indigeneity in the life of our campuses
The Indigenous Studies and Community Engagement Initiative (ISCEI) provides financial support and infrastructure for a range of activities meant to enhance the experiences of Indigenous students, faculty and staff, and to embed Indigeneity in the life of our campuses. ISCEI has funded and help organize ongoing Artist and Writer-in-residence programs which have brought Indigenous artists and authors to campus. It has provided support for the participation of Elders in University activities, both for programs and in particular classes. ISCEI has also provided support for the Knowledge Holder series in the Indigenous Studies Program.
