In the Faculty of Arts, a new course, titled ECON 350 Gender and Economics, was designed to allow students to explore the theoretical and empirical issues of gender and economics.

In the Faculty of Education, the expansion of the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education: June 2020 saw the first in-community B.Ed. K/Elem First Nations and Inuit Studies degrees ever awarded by the Faculty of Education.
Engineering
Engineering a Bright Future for Women in STEM
In the Faculty of Engineering, efforts have been made to improve the representation of women in our student body (30% at the undergraduate level, 30% at the graduate level). In Fall 2020, female students represented 33% of the entering undergraduate class and 37% of new graduate students. We have also substantially improved the diversity of our academic staff (42% of hires over the past three years have been women for a total of 18% of the faculty) and in the promotion of women to the level of full professor. Since Fall 2019, we have hired 11 new female tenure-track professors. *update required
Law
Empowering Indigenous Voices in the Classroom
The Faculty of Law hired three Indigenous faculty members since 2017, including the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Consitutionalism and Philosophy. Moreover, Law’s Faculty Council passed a motion in 2019 requiring all compulsory courses to incorporate Indigenous content and a mandatory first-year course in Indigenous Legal Traditions has been included in the BCL/JD offered as of Fall 2020 term.

Investing in Diversity
In February 2021, KPMG made a donation to fund a new award to expand the realm of possibility for minority students at the Desautels Faculty of Management. For the next five years, the KPMG Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Leadership Award will provide $50,000 to students pursuing a Master of Management of Retailing, Master of Management in Finance, or a Master of Management in Analytics degree.

Enhancing Indigenous Health Education
The FMHS launched McGill’s Indigenous Health Professions Program to support Indigenous learners on their journey to become health care professionals and to enhance Indigenous health education that supports all learners and educators to provide culturally safe, respectful care in their practice and relations with Indigenous peoples.
Engineering
Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
Two Inuit art installations titled Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit: Art, Architecture, and Traditional Knowledge and the complementary exhibit Takunnanguaqtangit (both installed at the Macdonald-Harrington Building), as well as Projections: Kwe, a project initiated by the Engineering Undergraduate Society’s Indigenous Inclusion Committee.

The Faculty of Science has enhanced accessibility for students from underrepresented groups: DeepMind fellowships foster diversity in the field of artificial intelligence research.

As part of the university’s Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism, GPS offers Graduate Excellence Recruitment Awards for Black applicants to McGill’s graduate programs, based on departmental nomination.
