Off-Campus and Self-Help Care Options for the Holidays

Published: 23 December 2019

With our services closed during the holiday period, we know it can be hard to know where to turn for support, resources, or answers over the next couple of weeks. Gere are some of the options available to you throughout the holiday closure:

Medical Care

We have an extensive list of off-campus medical care options, or you can try a telemedicine (online) option like Maple or GoEvisit. Please note that users may be required to pay for services during this time.

For general medical questions, you can always call Info-Santé at 811 to speak to a nurse.

Mental Health Care

Studentcare, the insurance provider for SSMU, PGSS, MCSS, and MCGSS, has partnered with PsyMontreal to create a Studentcare Psychology Network of providers offering services to students at a preferred rate.

TAO - or Therapy Assisted Online - is an online tool offering free modules for anxiety, stress, depression and more. You can use TAO on your own from anywhere, so it can be a great tool when you need additional tools and strategies between counsellor visits.

Other resources include:

  • Vent Over Tea (for in person active listening)
  • One of our many online self-help tools, including apps, videos, and audio
  • Call Info-Social at 811 to speak to a social worker for mental health information
  • Additional community resources related to mental health can be found on this page

Remember that if you or someone you know are at risk of harming yourself or others, it's best to call 911 immediately.

Financial Tips

Scholarships and Student Aid has prepared a handy Holiday Cheap Sheet to offer money-saving tips during the holidays.

International Students

If you're looking to connect with others in Montreal over the break, check out the free ISS Winter Social on Friday December 27th. It's an evening of art and light therapy with fellow international students who've stayed in town.

All services will reopen during regular operating hours on Friday January 3rd. Drop-in appointments will be available at the Student Wellness Hub on Monday January 6th.
