FAQ SEAD Courses

1. Who can register for the SEAD courses?

SEAD courses are open to the following students currently enrolled in a program in the Faculty of Engineering

  • Ph.D. students
  • M.Eng., M.Arch. and M.U.P. students
  • B.Eng. and B.Sc. (Arch) students in their third or higher year of study

Students in programs in Bioresource Engineering in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences can also register for the SEAD courses, provided that they have a previous degree in engineering in the case of graduate students. Students in engineering programs at other Quebec universities can also register for the SEAD courses through the Inter-University Transfer system. The restriction that undergraduate students be in their third or higher year of study also applies to these outside groups.

2. What is the process to register for a SEAD course for an undergraduate student?

Undergraduate students must complete the online registration form here

Students are required to obtain departmental approval before registering. This means filling out the Course Authorization Form (click here) with your personal information and then acquiring a signature from your Departmental Advisor. A digital signature is also acceptable. Please then attach the digital Course Authorization Form to your completed online registration request.

3. What is the process to register for a SEAD course for a graduate student?

Graduate students must complete the online registration form here

Students are required to obtain approval from their graduate supervisor or departmental graduate adviser before registering. This approval can be in the form of an e-mail from the supervisor/adviser

stating their approval for the student to take the SEAD course. Please then attach the digital copy of this consent to your completed online registration request.

4. Do students require the permission of the SEAD course instructor(s) to register for the SEAD courses?

No. This requirement is mentioned in the McGill eCalendar but is not required. The final decision to grant permission to students to register is given by TISED.

5. What is the process for students from other Quebec institutions wishing to take SEAD courses at McGill University (Inter-University Transfer)”

The Quebec Inter-University Transfer Agreement (IUT) or Autorisation d'études hors établissement (AEHE) allows students registered at any of the province's universities to take courses, which will count toward a degree at their home university, at other Quebec universities.

For more information visit the McGill AEHE-IUT page (https://www.mcgill.ca/transfercredit/iut) and then click on the "Non-McGill Student" tab (on the left)
