Talk abstract

The development and adoption of energy- and resource-efficient technologies is critical for improving the sustainability of society while ensuring continued economic progress.  Rigorous, prospective assessment of the life-cycle environmental and economic implications of such technologies can inform decisions on RD&D investments, policy incentives, technology standards, and initial target markets, all of which can help accelerate clean technology deployment. This presentation by Dr. Eric Masanet, will discuss novel systems analysis approaches being developed by the Energy and Resource Systems Analysis Laboratory (ERSAL), which integrate physical, economic, and life-cycle environmental systems models and data into analysis frameworks that enable more robust engineering and policy decisions.  Examples will be provided of how these analysis approaches have enhanced decisions related to the development of adoption of additive manufacturing processes and next-generation carbon capture materials.
