  • Applications must include:
    • a cover letter describing:
      • a detailed work plan for policy‐related research and deliverables in TISED’s target areas (described below)
      • how you intend to work with McGill and TISED researchers (we recommend including specific names and projects when possible)
      • major career achievements
    • a detailed CV
    • a list of three referee names and their affiliations
  • Applicants should specify a term period for their Scholar‐in‐Residence position:
    • Terms for the Scholar-in-Residence position are normally 6 consecutive months, preferably aligning, at least partially, with McGill’s academic year from September to May
    • Applicants can select terms up to three academic years following the application date
  • Applications must be sent to TISED [at] mcgill.ca
    • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; applications must be received no later than one (1) year prior to the commencement of the residence term

Position Overview

We are seeking a scholar to spend six months in residence at McGill’s Faculty of Engineering to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research with a clear policy impact and teaching. The Scholar will have an established record of research related to policy analysis and sustainability in the fields of engineering, urban planning or architecture. TISED’s Scholar‐in‐Residence program supports scholars and experts in conducting collaborative research with an emphasis on advancing sustainability in one of the following target areas:

  • Sustainable Infrastructure and Urban Development
  • Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
  • Sustainable Industrial Processes and Manufacturing
  • Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience

The selected Scholar would be engaged in policy‐focused research that will enable significant advances in sustainability in the above areas and is expected to

  • deliver one or more public lectures on their research
  • participate in a research workshop
  • take a leading role in preparing an impactful publication that advances policies for sustainability
  • interact with students through seminars and course lectures

Terms of Appointment

The term of the appointment will generally be for a six-month period, preferably between September 1 - May 31 of an academic year, though other timeframes can be considered. Scholars will receive a stipend, commensurate with experience, for the duration of this appointment. A supplement for travel and moving expenses is available. The Scholar will be provided with office space in the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University. 

Eligibility

Applications from academic, governmental, policy and industrial sectors are invited. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research and teaching, and a demonstrated track‐record of policy‐focused research. A Ph.D. or equivalent in a field of study related to sustainability in Engineering and Design is required.
