Biotechnology

Can be taken as: Minor

Biotechnology, the science of understanding, selecting, and promoting useful organisms and specific gene products for commercial and therapeutic purposes, is the success story of this generation. It demands a broad comprehension of biology and engineering as well as detailed knowledge of at least one basic subject such as molecular genetics, protein chemistry, microbiology, or chemical engineering.

The Minor in Biotechnology is offered by the Faculties of Engineering and of Science.  Engineering students may take this minor in addition to the courses required for the B.Eng. degree. Minor programs normally consist of 18-24 credits, allowing 9-12 credits of overlap with the degree program. The real credit cost to the student is typically 9 to 15 credits, representing one term beyond the B.Eng. degree program
