Meet with a Counsellor

Examples of services you can receive include care for: 

  • Depression
  • Disordered eating (e.g. binge eating, obsessive thinking)
  • Anxiety
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Procrastination
  • Relationship troubles
  • Substance use
  • Trauma

If you have a single mental health issue that you think could be addressed in 1 session, 30-minute drop-ins without an appointment are available. Drop-ins start at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.

Please indicate if you’d like your counsellor to be:

  • French-speaking
  • Indigenous
  • A particular gender
  • Or to specialize in (i.e. have knowledge of and a background in) LGBTQ+ experiences

To Cancel an Appointment

Please call 514-398-3601 or come in person to cancel an appointment.

You’ll be charged $15.00 if you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment. If you don’t cancel at all, you’ll be charged $30.00.

Release of Information

You can request documentation from your file but may need to schedule a check-in appointment with your clinician to discuss it.

The Quebec Order of Psychologists stipulates that professionals have a 30 day period to respond to requests for documentation. Counsellors typically respond in a much shorter period of time, but the nature of your request and time of year will influence the response time.

Wait Time

There is currently an average 5 week wait time for pre-booked appointments.

Meet with a Psychiatrist

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor whose main form of treatment is typically prescription medication for more severe mental health concerns.

You need a referral from a doctor, physician or McGill counsellor in order to make an appointment with a psychiatrist.

Examples of services you can receive include: 

  • Diagnosis of mental illnesses (including, but not limited to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar and other mood disorders) 
  • Prescribing and monitoring of medication for a diagnosed mental illness 
  • Referrals to appropriate care, both on- and off-campus

If you’re in crisis, Urgent Safety Evaluations are available without a referral.

You’ll be charged $20.00 if you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment. If you don’t cancel at all, you’ll be charged $70.00.

Release of Information

If you'd like a copy of documentation from your file, please complete a File Release of Information form and submit it by fax, mail or in person. 

Most requests are completed within 5-7 business days. Recent test results may take longer to access if they haven't been reviewed by a doctor yet.

There is a $1.00 per page fee for copying your file, up to a maximum of $25.00.
