Mindfulness-Based Medical Practice (MBMP)

An eight-week program for physicians and other health care professionals delivered entirely on ZOOM. The next session is scheduled from April 22 to June 13, 2022. Offered in both English and French.

Time: Fridays, 5:00 pm– 7:00 pm

A 5-hour retreat will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 10:00 am—3:00 pm.  

Led by: Patricia Dobkin, Ph.D.
Dr. Patricia Dobkin is a Certified MBSR Instructor (Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society, MA, USA) and co-author of the book: Mindful Medical Practitioners. A Guide for Clinicians and Educators (Springer International Publishing; 2016).

Cost: $600.00 (for M.D.s), $500.00 (for Ph.D.s, R.N.s, other health care professionals). You will receive a receipt that may be honored by an insurance company, as Dr. Patricia Dobkin is a clinical psychologist and member of OPQ.

This program in Mindfulness-Based Practice is designed to foster well-being in health care professionals. The program is modeled after the University of Massachusetts Medical School Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program which has been offered to patients and health care providers for the past 30 years. The program teaches participants to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress. It includes intensive training in mindfulness meditation and its integration into the challenges of daily life and medical practice.

Goals and Learning Objectives:

  • to aid health care professionals in identifying and dealing effectively with stressors
  • to introduce the concepts and practice of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
  • to improve patient care by enabling physicians to practice medicine mindfully.

As a participant you will receive:

  • instruction in mindfulness meditation and mindful yoga
  • methods to enhance awareness in everyday life
  • daily assignments
  • guided mindfulness CDs / audio files and a workbook.

This program meets the accreditation criteria as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been accredited by the Office of Continuing Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, McGill University for up to 16 Section 1 (Accredited Group Learning Activity) credits/hours. Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert Royal College MOC credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/go/internationalcme.

This activity is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Office of Continuing Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, McGill University.
