The Montreal Children’s Hospital, Acute Pain Service is part of the MCH, Department of Anesthesia and had been implemented as a formal entity in 2001.  This clinical service is offered to pediatric patients treated at the MCH, mostly inpatients from the surgical and medical services.  This service is operated 24 hrs/day,7 days/week by a multidisciplinary anesthesia team.  Patients are mostly from Montreal and its suburbs but also come from the Province of Quebec, other parts of Canada and the eastern United States for tertiary care (neurosurgery, cardiac, plastic, orthopedic surgery).

The Chronic Pain Service evaluates and treats chronic pain in children in a multidisciplinary way.  The core team comprises a physician, psychologist, physiotherapist and clinical nurse specialist.  Medical and surgical specialists and members of Social Services are consulted when needed.  The clinic sees patients one day a week.  About 100 patients are seen per year.  Blocks are done when needed in the OR.
