Wi-Fi network: Messages on iOS and MacOS devices

Published: 12 July 2023

On July 11th, the security certificate that secures authentication to McGill's wpa.mcgill.ca, eduroam, and cusm-muhc.mcgill.ca Wi-Fi networks was renewed. This certificate allows you to sign on to the Wi-Fi network in a secure manner. For Android and most Windows devices, no change was necessary, but most iOS and MacOS devices are displaying a message that prompts users to accept the certificate.

Please follow these instructions to accept the certificate (see attached document for screenshots):

iOS:

  1. Ensure that the wireless-login.mcgill.ca certificate is issued by Thawte RSA CA 2018.
  2. If you select more details, you’ll also see that the Issuer should be DigiCert Inc.

MacOS:

  1. When prompted to ‘Verify Certificate’, select ‘Show Certificate’ to ensure that the certificate was issued by DigiCert Global Root CA and Thawte RSA CA 2018.
  2. Once you have verified the information, accept the certificate by selecting ‘Continue' to access the Wi-Fi network.
