Frequently asked questions

I'm a student from a faculty besides management and I would like to join this course. Am I eligible?

We encourage students from all faculties to attend the info sessions and apply for this course. The course is not limited to students from the Faculty of Management.

How many students get into the program each year?

Usually, we accept four teams of four to five students each time. Each team is comprised of a master’s student project leader and three to four undergraduate analysts.

I couldn't make it to the information session, but I would still really like to apply for the class next semester. How do I go about it?

You can apply here and carefully reading the instructions on how to prepare and submit your application package.  Please note that you cannot self-register to this course via Minerva; we will register the selected students into the program at the appropriate time.  Feel free to contact us at mnfpc [at] mcgill.ca in case you have further questions.

I attended the information session, but am still unclear about the weekly time commitment required for the project. Can you shed some light on that?

In general, students taking this course typically invest at least the same amount of preparation time as they would for a regular course, and at peak times much more.  You should be comfortable with the idea that the MNFPC is demanding and requires unwavering commitment!

What does the project timeline look like?

Once applications are accepted and the teams are chosen, students meet up with their groups and connect with their respective advisers. For the remainder of the fall semester, teams are required to reach out to NGOs and by the beginning of winter semester, have selected the organization they will be working with. During the winter semester, the class will officially begin and students will be required to attend a weekly class every Friday at 8 – 10AM. The program concludes following the final presentations during mid-April.

How is this course graded?

The program is a 3 credit course that is graded in the winter semester. However, work on the projects begins in the fall semester, when teams are responsible for engaging a Not-for-Profit organization and developing a Letter of Proposal.  Evaluation is based on the quality of the consulting project and its presentation; periodical individual reflections; and, participation and professionalism. I discovered this course while I was planning my Winter term.  It is now past the official application date, yet I would still like to apply.  What should I do?

Unfortunately, the unique structure of this course requires us to close registration in October.  Please try again next year!

Does this course help me create contacts in the consulting world and generate potential leads for employment?

Yes, the MNFPC program connects each group of students to 2 advisers throughout the entire program, several training sessions at their consultant office, and a LinkedIn network of all past and present participants; including students, professors, and consultants.
