Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Student Survey

Report on the 2022-23 Student Survey on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

In September of 2022, over 400 McGill Economics students completed a voluntary survey concerning equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in McGill’s Economics department. Economics is an empirical discipline, so collecting and analyzing data is an essential first step to understand current challenges and to inform targeted plans to improve EDI in the department. This report on the inaugural McGill Economics EDI Student Survey provides a novel portrait of the Department based on high-level results from all portions of the survey including student demographics, program-specific experiences, views on the academic and social cultures in Economics, and experiences of discrimination. The findings presented here provide a baseline from which we can measure the impacts of future initiatives as we work towards greater equity, diversity and inclusion to build a stronger Economics department, community, and profession.
