Legal settlement reached between McGill University and the Sergent estate

Published: 15 January 1997

As a result of an interim judgement which suspended the Bloom Enquiry and as a result of the passage of time and extraordinary expense involved in the litigation process which has yet to yield a final judgement, McGill University and the Estate of Justine Sergent have decided to settle by terminating the litigation and the enquiry. The parties recognize that throughout Me Casper Bloom acted competently, professionally and objectively. The proceedings were never intended to question his integrity but were only concerned with the procedural appearance of independence. The parties also recognize the good faith of McGill University in setting up the Enquiry. The Scientific Audit currently being conducted under the aegis of Dr. Marcus Raichle will continue on the basis of a protocol agreed to by McGill University and the Estate of Justine Sergent.
