McGill University requires that at least one Event Coordinator and all event servers at all student events attend a three-hour Server Training session. This applies to ALL STUDENT EVENTS held on campus involving alcohol. The University will not issue alcohol permits or book an event and/or book a room until this training is complete, so if you're planning a party you will want to be trained well in advance. Server Training Badges must be worn by servers at all times they are serving alcohol at on-campus events. You will receive your badge at the session you attend.
About Server Training
The Server Training Program educates student alcohol providers about their legal responsibilities as servers and provides practical methods for ensuring responsible consumption and minimizing alcohol related harms. All students who serve alcohol on McGill Campus must be Server Trained. Topics covered include:
- McGill Policy and Security
- Alcohol and its effects on the body
- How to serve alcohol
- Alcohol first aid and safety
- Alcohol and consent
- Quebec laws and Montreal bylaws
Please note: This is NOT a bartending course.
