Mission
The mission of the Office of Academic Reviews (OAR) is to apply world-class quality assurance processes to McGill’s academic programs and units; processes that are responsive, useful, adaptable, student-centred, and aligned with strategic priorities.
Mandate
The Office of Academic Reviews (OAR) is responsible for creating, implementing, maintaining, and revising regulations and operational quality assurance processes and procedures for McGill’s academic reviews. The process is designed to be flexible, transparent, accountable, and respond to the needs of units and Faculties. It includes a suite of possible review options ranging from a simple check in of an existing program all the way to full department reviews, involving external reviewers and site visits.
Academic Review Process
In Fall 2022 the new review ecosystem was launched which, when fully implemented, will consist of a suite of nine different types of reviews. OAR will meet with Deans annually in the Spring to determine the number and type of reviews that the Faculties would like to conduct in the upcoming academic year. The academic review process involves many stakeholders and is guided by a set of Procedures.
