McGill student teams win all four prizes at Ice Hotel

McGill undergraduate student teams won all four prizes in the Architecture Éphémère competition at the Ice Hotel outside Quebec City in Valcartier at the opening celebration on Friday, January 18. Student teams from the universities of Laval, McGill, Montréal, and UQAM submitted design panels to the competition, of which three were chosen to be built as theme rooms and a fourth to be given an award of merit. The prizes were awarded as follows:

  • First: Au Milieu des Bambous (Arlene Chen, Cindy Duan, Ruoyu Zhu)
  • Second: Hortus Fungorum (Liliane Bamdadian, May Bi, Maria Teleman)
  • Third (+ Public Choice Award): Arboretum (Thomas King, Sahil Adnan, Michelle Wang)
  • Award of Merit: The Invisible Garden (Yuxuan Wu, Qiuyu Zhang)

All four teams were represented at the opening celebration of the Ice Hotel, accompanied by McGill’s veteran Ice Hotel advisor, Prof. David Covo, and the School’s administrative officer, David Krawitz.
