Architecture is a field of ideas, not just one of buildings and construction. In order to communicate their ideas about the built environment, architects make drawings, build models, and then share their ideas with the general public, e.g., through publications and exhibitions.

In the fifth session, educators are encouraged to help children curate their ideas in the form of : 1) a bound booklet; and/or 2) a group exhibition.

In the first four sessions, participating children are asked to approach design by creating drawings before they build models of their structures. This process emulates the steps architects take in order to first conceptualize, imagine, then prototype or test their concepts. We encourage educators to include children’s cultural productions from the playshops, e.g., drawings and built structures from the hands-on activities. In the fifth session, again emulating what architects do, participating children will be able to bind their workbooks into a single book.

Additionally, throughout the five sessions, educators are asked to collect examples of participants’ drawings and built structures (e.g., 10 creations per playshop group can be digitally recorded with cellphone cameras) and to share a final exhibition of the children’s work with their community (in-person or online). Educators are invited to submit these images to Architecture Playshop Facebook or Instagram accounts, so that children and educators around the world can see them and be inspired.
