2024 Award Recipients

Nkwanzi Banage, U2, Honours Political Science 

Nkwanzi is a third-year student pursuing an Honours degree in Political Science with a Minor in Economics. This summer, she will be interning with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). As a non-profit think tank, CDD focuses on promoting democratic consolidation and enhancing good governance across Africa. With a passion for advocacy and deep interest in sub-Saharan African politics, Nkwanzi is looking forward to leveraging her skills and applying classroom knowledge in her role.

Carlota Macedo Leão, U3, Honours Political Science

Carlota is a third-year student at McGill, completing her Honours Degree in Political Science with a Minor in Anthropology. This summer, she will intern at AGIR, a Montreal-based non-profit organization that aims to defend the legal, social, and economic rights of refugees and migrants from the LGBTQIA+ community through support services and community activities. Carlota will organize events on economic resilience and knowledge of rights, to support the community in accessing essential services such as housing, employment, healthcare, and protection against discrimination. She is excited to collaborate with passionate non-governmental workers to help develop solutions to the systemic barriers confronting LGBTQ+ refugees and immigrants. 

Ahmed Rafay, U0

Rafay Ahmed is a U0 student at McGill University interested in Canadian Studies, Political Science, and Quebec Studies. This summer, Rafay will be interning at the Peter-McGill Community Council. The Council, one of Montréal's 30 community councils, operates as a community-led model of urban governance. Passionate about driving change through non-profit organizations, Rafay is excited to help enhance the well-being of residents in the neighbourhood and contribute towards actionable solutions to address community-specific challenges.

Madeline Siaroff, U2, History

Madeline is a third year History student with minors in Indigenous Studies and Religious Studies. Her main area of interest is the British Empire in the Edwardian period looking at materialculture, specifically textile and fashion history. This Summer she will be working with the Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums.

Arismita Ghosh, U2, English Literature

Arismita Ghosh is a second-year English Literature student at McGill University, with an interest in post-colonial literature. She will be interning at the Kabir Centre for Arts and Culture in order to help promote and organise the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFM). As a passionate student of South Asian studies, Arismita is eager to contribute to an initiative that introduces multi-cultural media to a Canadian audience. She looks forward to learning from the variety of filmmakers and artists who will showcase their work at the film festival!

AnnaClare Sung, U2, English Cultural Studies 

AnnaClare Sung is a third-year student majoring in English Cultural Studies, with minors in English Literature and Communications. This summer she will be interning at the Korean Film Festival Canada. Her duties include communicating with festival partners, assisting in planning next year’s festival and grant-writing. She is eager and excited to help foster cultural and artistic exchanges between Asia and Canada, and engage with and introduce East Asian film to the Montreal community.

Jade Bréchard, U2, Political Science and International Development Studies

Jade is a second year student double majoring in Political Science and International Development Studies. She will be interning as an organizational assistant at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, France, specifically to the development of country partnership networks, guiding French companies in exporting abroad. This internship will be an opportunity to study geopolitical and economic dynamics between France and the rest of the world, enabling Jade to build on and strengthen her academic and language skills.

Júlia De Oliveira Lima Gaspar, U3, Political Science

Júlia is an upcoming third-year student in International Development Studies, Economics, and Hispanic Studies. Originally from Brazil, with roots from Portugal, Julia is thrilled to enter the diplomatic field. This summer, she will be interning at the Consulate General of Portugal in Montreal.

Ella Deacon, U3, Political Science and English Cultural Studies

Ella Deacon is entering her final semester of a double major in Political Science and English Cultural Studies. This summer she will be the music librarian at CKUT, a campus and community radio station. With a passion for sonic art and Montréal’s music scene, Ella is eager to gain archival experience in the music library. In this position, Ella will work on outreach and volunteer engagement skills, establishing important connections in the local art and music industry through weekly newsletters and listening parties.

Ioannis Dedes, U3, Political Science and History

Ioannis Dedes is a U3 student at McGill, majoring in Political Science and History. He is also a Freelance Content Writer and Copywriter with experience of working in the online media industry, 300+ online articles and publications, 10+ agency collaborations, and 300,000+ online reads.This summer, Ioannis will embark on an internship at MacroPolis, a leading organization based in Greece. MacroPolis is an independent analysis service that provides timely and accurate insights into the political, economic, and social developments within Greece. During his internship, Ioannis will engage in various activities aimed at enhancing his understanding of political and economic analysis.

Sara Hurtado-Fudinaga, U2, Political Science and  Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, and Social Justice

Sara Hurtado-Fudinaga is an upcoming third-year student at McGill University double-majoring in Political Science and GSFS. This summer, she will be interning for Peru’s representation at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montréal. The ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations for international cooperation in the aviation sector. As part of Peru’s representation, Sara will support the liaison between Peru and the organization by facilitating the country’s involvement in global aviation governance.

Adrienne Roy, U2, English Cultural Studies

Adrienne is finishing their third year in English Cultural Studies with a minor in History. This summer, they will be staying in Montreal and working as the Arts and Culture correspondent and Archivist at CKUT 90.3 FM. Adrienne could not be more excited to develop their investigative and journalistic skills by covering arts and culture events, writing for the Spoken Word blog, and producing a podcast using CKUT’s extensive audio archive.

Selin Abali, U3, Joint Honours Political Science and World Islamic and Middle East Studies

Selin Abali (she/her) is a third year student pursuing a Joint Honours in Political Science and World Islamic and Middle East Studies. This summer she has the chance to intern at Upstream Journal, a Montréal-based journal focusing on human rights and social justice. She is eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to hone her journalism skills and write about issues she is passionate about.

Catalina Alfaro, U3, Anthropology

Catalina Alfaro is a third-year anthropology major with a minor in social studies of medicine. She is originally from Colombia and immigrated to Canada at a young age, which sparked her interest in culture and intercultural relations. She has always been interested in health care and access to care. She will intern at the McGill University Healthcare Care Foundation, working with the marketing team. She is extremely excited to learn the logistics behind a healthcare foundation and eager to work with them.

Ciara Balhi, U3, Political Science and Economics

Ciara Balhi is a rising fourth-year student double majoring in Economics and Political Science. This summer, Ciara will be interning at the Upstream Journal, a journal specialised in human rights issues and entirely written by students. Her project will consist of doing research, writing an article and producing a podcast on a systemic human rights issue of her choice. She hopes to contribute to raising awareness and deepening her understanding of global human rights issues.

Ibtihal Beramdane, U1, Political Science

Ibtihal Beramdane is a First-Year student hailing from Morocco and currently majoring in Political Science. Starting from May 2024, she will be interning at the non-profit organization Éduconnexion, in Montreal. This represents a great opportunity for her, as she will immerse herself in the various sectors that make up the organization. Therefore, she will participate in project management operations and in the numerous educational programs Éduconnexion suggests and promotes, when assisting staff members. Moreover, she will hopefully take part in the making of a documentary aiming to amplify the voices of young migrants from different geographical and cultural backgrounds now living in Montreal, by keeping track of their respective experiences on film. She is really excited and is looking forward to this experience!

Sadie Bryant, U3, English Cultural Studies

Sadie Bryant is a fourth-year Cultural Studies major and Art History minor at McGill. With a passion for connecting people through accessible and creative spaces, Sadie's immersion in Montreal's independent music scene fuels her excitement to explore the radical potential of art and community. The Suoni per il Popolo festival is renowned for its avant-garde ethos and dedication to showcasing diverse and experimental music from around the world. With experience in event coordination and a commitment to social movements, Sadie is excited to contribute as the Festival Intern at Suoni per il Popolo.

Claire Cheng, U1, Honours Economics

Claire Cheng is a first-year student pursuing her B.A. in Honours Economics with a minor in Statistics. This summer, she will be interning at the Trade and Economic Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada. With an interest in political economy, she is excited to learn about the conduct of international trade and public diplomacy. She will be supporting the work of the Delegation by drafting reports for EU headquarters and member states, taking meeting minutes, and preparing speaking points for Delegation officials.

Sarah Elobaid Ahmed, U3, International Development Studies and World Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies

Sarah is a U3 student majoring in International Development Studies and World Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies. She will be interning at The Upstream Journal, a human rights and social justice magazine based in Montreal. This summer, she will engage in research, interviewing, writing/editing articles, and recording a podcast episode. With a background in activism and NGO experience, Sarah looks forward to applying her skills to the Upstream team while exploring a career in journalism.

Grace Hodges, U1,  Joint Honours Political Science and History

Grace is currently finishing her second year in Joint Honours Political Science and History. This summer she will intern with Fondation Émergence, a francophone organisation dedicated to raising awareness, educating, and informing about the realities of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Through her posting she will be working to establish a pan-Canadian partnership and mutual support network for Francophone 2SLGBTQI+ organisations. She is excited for this opportunity to engage with Francophone communities and support the continued fight against transphobia and homophobia.

Angela Zhai, U1, International Development Studies and Computer Science

Angela is a first-year undergraduate student majoring in International Development and Computer Science at McGill University. She will be interning with Festival Accès Asie, a Montreal-based festival that promotes Asian cultures and traditions through various art forms. Angela is looking forward to immersing herself in a multicultural environment and she’s excited to witness firsthand the power the arts can have in preserving heritage. She hopes to learn more about event coordination through her internship.

Uma Le Daca Jolicoeur, U1, Joint Honours Anthropology and Latin American and Caribbean Studies

Uma Le Daca Jolicoeur is a Joint Honours student in Anthropology and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. This summer she will be interning at an institute under the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) in Mendoza, Argentina. The institute focuses on ecological protection and collaborative research with Indigenous communities, civil society organizations and government sector members. She is passionate about humanistic and holistic approaches to environmental issues and hopes to gain more insight during her time at CONICET.

Lyndon Walsh, U2, Political Science

Lyndon Walsh is a third-year Political Science student minoring in Biochemistry. This summer he will be interning at the Centre Hospitalier Régional de Nancy in Nancy, Grand-Est, France. With the Department of Thoracic Surgery, he aims to evaluate how institutional health policies and governmental health system designs impact healthcare delivery. Lyndon hopes to improve his French language proficiency and translate his experiences into healthcare improvements for populations here in Québec.

Rafaella Cerenzia, U2, Honours History

Raffaella is pursuing an Honours History degree with a Political Science minor. She will work with the Jardins de Métis to read, summarize, and research the books that made up Elsie Reford’s (1872-1967) library. Ultimately, she will work to better understand both Reford’s life and the intellectual currents of 19^th- and 20^th- century Québec. Raffaella is extraordinarily excited to explore this combination of intellectual and women’s history, and to share her findings with the public.

Maia Bergeron, U2, Economics

Maia Bergeron is a third-year student majoring in Economics and minoring in Environment. She is passionate about climate activism and youth engagement. This summer, Maia will be working with the Climate Reality Project on their Campus Corps program which focuses on building a pan-Canadian network of climate advocates at post-secondary institutions. She is excited to provide concrete tools and resources to students to help them kickstart their activism journeys.

Leo Larman Brown, U2, Political Science

Leo Larman Brown is a McGill student going into his final year, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Jewish Studies. Over this summer, he will be working at the Ontario Native Women’s Association in their policy and strategy department. He is excited to work in an Indigenous-led organisation and support Indigenous women on their own terms.

Michele, U2, Honours History

Michele is a third-year student pursuing an Honours History major with a double minor in Political Science and Economics. This summer, she will be completing an internship with the Asian Pacific Peace Museum, a non-profit historical organization based in Toronto. With a passion for heritage preservation, Michele will be working with oral testimonies and conducting archival research to promote peace and reconciliation for diasporic communities impacted by World War II in Asia.

Arun Ghag, U2, Honours Urban Studies

Arun Ghag (he/him) is a U2 student at McGill University majoring in Honours Urban Studies and minoring in Management. He will be working as a Human Resources and Operations Intern with the Synergos Institute. This non-profit organization partners with leaders from 50+ countries to solve complex problems such as poverty, social injustice, and climate change. He is excited to combine his passions for business and social justice to make an impact on a global scale.

Simone Danielle Poku, U0, International Development Studies & Communications Studies

Simone Poku is a first-year student at McGill, eagerly embarking on her academic journey in International Development Studies and Communication Studies. Motivated by the desire to delve deeper into the intricacies of international development, Simone will be interning with Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) Toronto this summer. CAMFED is an international NGO dedicated to eradicating poverty and empowering girls through education. Simone aims to conduct meaningful research, refine her skills and broaden her scope on CAMFED’s innovative strategies throughout her internship.

Khushi Mehta, U2, Political Science and International Development Studies

Khushi Mehta is a Political Science and International Development Studies student who will be interning at the UN Headquarters of New York over the summer via the Temple of Understanding. The TOU is an interfaith organization aiming to educate youth and adults cross-culturally and inter-religiously for global citizenship and peaceful coexistence. As an intern for the TOU, Khushi will spend her days at the UN headquarters, learning about diplomacy and presenting her project after 4 and a half weeks of intense learning. She is extremely grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to spend a month in New York.

Elias German, U2, Psychology and Linguistics

Elias is a rising fourth year student in Psychology and Linguistics. He will be an intern at the Participatory Cultures Lab, which is a social science research using participatory visual methodologies as forms of research and intervention. Elias is a hopeful future clinical psychologist, and he hopes to use his time at the PCL to learn more about working in and with marginalized communities to address, discuss, and cope with social and cultural disadvantages faced there.

Sasha Avrutsky, U3, Cognitive Science

Sasha is a third-year student in Cognitive Science and Anthropology. This summer, they are excited to create a podcast with CKUT 90.3 FM, a community radio station located on McGill’s campus. They will be interviewing community members around Montréal to gain new perspectives on how people find joy amidst, or to overcome, mental health challenges. Sasha is looking forward to delving deep into a topic that has always interested them outside of the classroom, to applying the knowledge they acquire from this internship to their future career aspirations of becoming a therapist, and to meeting new people in the greater Montréal area.

Avryl Bender, U2, Honours English Literature

Avryl is a second-year student pursuing an Honours in English Literature with a minor in French Language and Literature. This summer, she will intern with Poetry Matters, an initiative based out of the Department of English at McGill University. Avryl looks forward to gaining experience with archival research, helping to facilitate poetry events in Montreal, and learning about the work that Poetry Matters is doing with McGill’s Laboratory for Attention and Social Cognition.

Jingru Chen, U2, History and East Asian Studies

Jingru Chen is a third-year student at McGill University, currently completing a degree in History and East Asian Studies. Their academic interests and expertise primarily focus on the cultural, political, and social developments of East Asia and Canada. Additionally, they have a certain understanding of the historical backgrounds of women, LGBTQ+, and Indigenous communities in both Asia and Canada. This summer, they will intern at Teesri Duniya Theatre, where, under the guidance of the artistic director, they will study, analyze, and critique politically relevant dramas, thereby researching critical social and political issues and writing papers based on independent investigations.

Lake De Gall, U2, Anthropology

Lake de Gall is a third year student studying Anthropology and Linguistics. This summer, they will be working with Exposures in preparation for Montréal’s first trans film festival. As a trans student with a passion for creativity and thirst for knowledge, he is looking forward to uplifting Montréal’s trans and queer communities in helping to realize and promote this event, and to encountering a rich spectrum of culture and life experiences therein.

Kaikoura Gutteridge, U3, Linguistics

Kaikoura Gutteridge is a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a major in linguistics with a double-minor in English literature and French. She is looking forward to spending the summer as a marketing and outreach intern at the Regent Park Film Festival in Toronto, a non-profit media arts organization known for being Toronto's longest-running, free community film festival. As someone who is passionate about communications and film, Kaikoura is excited to gain more experience in these fields this summer.

Liu Lake, U3, Honours International Development Studies and East Asian Studies

Lake Liu is a fourth-year honours student majoring in International Development and East Asian Studies. This summer, she is interning with the Funding and Outreach Department at CKUT, McGill’s non-profit radio station. Lake will assist with grant-writing to secure funding sources, organize fundraising events and help with donor communications. As a music and pop culture enthusiast, Lake is excited for the chance to further CKUT’s mission to amplify diverse voices in radio.

Shakti Nirmal, M1, English

Shakti is an MA English student with a keen interest in film and journalism. She will intern for the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFm), which takes place annually and is organised by the Kabir Centre for Arts & Culture. As an intern, she will take on duties at the centre to enable the success of the festival and write articles to spread the word about SAFFm! She is excited to do her part in promoting independent films coming out of South Asia and fostering healthy dialogue around issues that get sidelined by mainstream cinema.

Rosemary O'Meara, M1, School of Information Studies

Rosemary O’Meara is a first-year graduate student in the School of Information Studies. She’s excited to use her background in community radio and live-music management to amplify the voices and sounds central to Montreal’s past, present and future while working with Suoni per il Popolo. As an archival intern this summer, she’s looking forward to combining her interest in community archives and local music by exploring and preserving the festival’s influential and experimental history.

Charlotte Petitjean, U2, Joint Honours Political Science and International Development Studies

Charlotte is a second-year student pursuing a Joint Honours degree in Political Science and International Development Studies. She will be working over the summer as an intern for the Maritime Mediterranean Prefecture. Her tasks include working with the French navy and local authorities to coordinate the military security during the Olympic Games 2024. She will assist in upholding security protocols for the arrival of the Olympic flame and ensuring the safety of the sailing and windsurfing competitions in Marseille.

Dana Prather, U3, English: Drama & Theatre and Psychology

Dana is a fourth-year student pursuing a double major in English: Drama & Theatre and Psychology. This summer, they will be completing an internship with the Montreal-based nonprofit Arts in the Margins (AIM). An organisation committed to working with and uplifting artists from historically marginalized groups, AIM is dedicated to helping build healthy, self-sustaining communities via the creative arts. Dana looks forward to working with AIM and seeing firsthand how increasing accessibility in the arts can meaningfully impact local communities.

Kai Samuel-Szablowski, U2, History

Kai Samuel-Szablowski is a second-year student at McGill University majoring in History and minoring in South Asian Studies. He will intern at Curious Features, a small documentary film company. Kai will assist the producer and creative director, helping develop and research documentary pitches for production. He will also be supervised in the creation of his own radio documentary pitchable to the CBC. Kai is grateful for the support offered through the Dean of Arts Development award which will allow him to take full advantage of this experience.

Tia Sharma, U2, Psychology

Tia Sharma, a U2 student, hails from Mumbai, India. Majoring in Psychology and minoring in English Cultural Studies, she embarks on an exciting internship journey with the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFM). Tia will work in communications and publicity tasks, including researching films, advising on selections, and strategizing communications. With the support of the Kabir Centre for Arts, Tia looks forward to contributing to SAFFM's success while gaining invaluable professional experience in the film and marketing industry.

Jayda Smith, U1, English Literature

Jayda Smith is a U1 student majoring in English Literature. Over the Summer, she will be interning with Poetry Matters, an initiative based in McGill’s department of English that aims to explore the importance of poetry in today’s world, drawing from Montréal’s poetic culture. Her passion for poetry and creative expression makes this opportunity a great fit. She is excited to undergo research and contribute to knowledge about Montréal’s poets.

Jia Sun, U3, Hispanic Studies and Sociology

With previous training in engineering, Jia Sun is currently completing her third year as a Sociology and Hispanic studies major. This summer, she will be completing two internships in vastly different fields to explore her interests in festival event coordination and worker union organizing. She will be interning at Festival Accès Asie, a festival running during the Asian Heritage Month of May and promotes intercultural exchange among Asian and Quebec communities. Then, she will be working with The General Union to help low-wage Quebec workers achieve unionization at their workplace.

Sabin Boyer, U2, Political Science and Economics

Sabin is a U2 student majoring in Economics and Political Science. This summer, Sabin will intern at the American think tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in their Brussels office. He will participate in a wide range of ad hoc research projects, notably about the European Union's Policies regarding issues such as supply chain resilience and its relationship with Southeast Asia. This opportunity will undoubtedly fuel his passion about European politics.

Taïna Dushime, U3, International Development and Health Geography

Taïna Dushime is a third-year student at McGill University majoring in International Development and minoring in Health Geography. Interning at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR Canada), she will be working with seasoned professionals dedicated to ensuring the rights of refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people. Fueled by her passion for human rights advocacy and experience in digital marketing, Taïna will be working on different UNHCR initiatives including interviews with previous asylum-seekers, educational projects for younger demographics, and various other storytelling campaigns highlighting contributions of refugees in Quebec and Canada.

Samantha Villedrouin, U2, Psychology

Samantha is a U2 student majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology and Behavioural Science. This summer, she will be interning at the DESTA Black Community Network organization, which is dedicated to helping Black youth achieve their educational, employability, and entrepreneurial goals. Samantha's responsibilities will include assisting the DESTA black community network in developing marketing strategies that align with the organization's mission and prioritize the needs of the community they serve.

Pascal Deslauriers, M1, Political Science

Pascal is a first-year MA student in political science from Montréal. He currently works as a public affairs counsellor for a firm. His academic work focuses on the Caucasus region and de facto states in general. Pascal also has a keen interest in diplomacy, particularly Québec's role in the global arena. He has been passionate about politics since a young age, reflecting his commitment to understanding the political landscape.  

Molly Dorr, U3, Joint Honours International Development Studies and African Studies

Molly Dorr is in her fourth year at McGill, pursuing a Joint Honours degree in International Development Studies and African Studies. She will be interning with Amplio, a non-profit whose mission is to increase literacy rates in marginalized communities across the world. Molly is thankful for the opportunity to learn from an experienced team and work to better the lives of others.

Gabin Dumas, U2, Political Science and Economics

Gabin Dumas has just completed his second year of a double major in Political Science and Economics. This summer, he will be interning in the Financial Department at SPIE Global Services Energy. This opportunity will allow him to apply his economics knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of finance and accounting within an international business context. Gabin is immensely grateful for the chance to explore critical financial operations, including client invoicing, supplier accounting, and budget preparation. He is eager to integrate his academic insights into practical financial management.

Jeanne Gonelle , U3, Joint Honours Political Science and Islamic Civilizations & Middle Eastern Studies

Jeanne Gonelle is an upcoming U3 Joint Honours student in Political Science and Islamic Civilizations & Middle Eastern Studies with a minor in Economics. This summer, she will be interning with the Delegation Générale du Québec Office in New York, which oversees the relationship between Québec and the United States regarding politics, trade, and culture. Working under the Communications and Government affairs department, she will have the occasion to develop her skills and knowledge of diplomatic relations of the region.

Marie Trotter, PhD4, English

Marie Trotter is a PhD Candidate in the Department of English, researching metatheatrical direct address and audience interactivity in Shakespeare’s plays. She’s thrilled to be working with Repercussion Theatre this summer as a consultant on their 2024 Shakespeare-in-the-Park production: Infinite Variety, a cabaret-inspired performance drawing from plays across Shakespeare’s canon. She looks forward to supporting Repercussion’s work with her research on historical performance practice and to witnessing metatheatrical magic in Montréal parks this summer! 

Molly Newman, U2, Jewish Studies

Molly Newman is a second-year student pursuing a major in Jewish Studies. This Summer, she will intern at the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow, Poland—a museum whose dedication to preserving and sharing the vibrant Jewish history of Galicia aligns with Molly's interests in Ashkenazi cultural memory. Eager to immerse herself in the cultural tapestry of the region, she anticipates gaining valuable insights into historical Jewish life while honing her skills in public history and pedagogy.

Marie-Alex Depuydt, U2, International Development Studies & Honors Political Science

Marie-Alix is pursuing a Joint Honors Political Science and International Development Studies degree with a minor in Economics. This summer, she will be interning at Fipra International, a public affair consulting firm in Brussels. With the European elections approaching, she aims to gain experience by monitoring and working with clients to gain a deeper understanding of EU public affairs. Marie-Alix is eager to grasp a more comprehensive understanding of EU regulatory affairs through this internship.

Alexandra Escano Brodeur, U3m Political Science

Alexandra is a third-year political science student who will be working with the International Civil Aviation Organization this summer. As someone who has chosen to orient her studies towards international relations, working for a branch of the United Nations falls precisely within her field of interest. Cassie Klumpp, U0

Cassie is currently a U0 student. This summer, she will pursue an internship with The Brandman Agency in New York City, a public relations firm that represents elite brands in luxury travel, tourism, and real estate. This internship will give Cassie hands-on experience with project management, client communication, and media outreach, allowing her the opportunity to learn from established industry professionals and strengthen her digital optimization and communication skills.

Christopher Marton, U3, Political Science 

Christopher Marton is a third-year student pursuing a political science degree with a minor in French. This summer, Christopher has the opportunity to work with the U.S Consulate General as a Commercial Section Intern in Montreal. Throughout this internship, Christopher will be an advocate for bilateral trade between Quebec and the United States, assisting U.S companies to seek partners in Quebec. He is excited to enhance his understanding of diplomacy through this hands-on experience.

Amelia McCluskey, U3, English Cultural Studies

Amelia McCluskey is a third year student in English Cultural Studies with a minor in World Cinemas. This summer, she will work as a Digital Video Assistant at CKUT 90.3fm in Montreal. As a campus/community radio station, CKUT’s mandate is to provide an essential service to those in the Montreal community whose needs are unmet by mainstream commercial radio. Amelia is excited to expand her practical skills in film and video production while gaining meaningful experience working at a non-profit arts organization.

Charlotte Pink, U3, History & Urban Planning

Charlotte Pink is a U3 student double majoring in History and Urban Studies. This summer, she will be interning at McGill’s campus-community radio station, CKUT 90.3 FM, primarily working on a weekly podcast. Anna Boyd, U3, Anthropolgy and Psychology 

Anna Boyd (she/her) is a third year student currently pursuing a double major in Anthropology and Psychology. This summer, she's excited to intern as a coordinator at the Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums. The organization aims to promote volunteer work in museums and heritage sites across Canada, offering resources and support to volunteers. Anna is deeply devoted to history and culture and looks forward to supporting CFFM's outreach efforts and event coordination initiatives. Patrick Poulin, U2, English Literature

Patrick Poulin (they/them/any) is a non-binary genderfluid independent artist & filmmaker, and an undergraduate English Literature student at McGill, with minors in both World Cinemas and Gender Studies (GSFS). They are currently developing a potential English Literature Honours thesis about gender-non-conformity in the genre of body horror, as well as developing a number of film projects which explore genderqueerness through genre or experimental lenses. Their internship at Exposures, a new Trans Film Festival in Montreal, is a perfect opportunity to put these research interests into practical application. Through communicating with filmmakers & festival sponsors, and creating & posting publicity on social media, they will be assisting in the creation of an infrastructure for representation and community for genderqueer artists – as well as experiencing the exciting opportunity to network with filmmakers and learn about festival community!

Laurence Breton, U2, Social Work

Laurence, a U2 social work student with a minor in Indigenous studies, will spend her summer interning with No Name Kitchen (NNK) in Trieste, Italy. NNK is a non-profit distributing food, clothing, medical, and legal support to migrants on the move. Laurence's role will involve collecting migrant testimonies to raise awareness and advocate for their rights. Committed to addressing social injustices affecting migrants, Laurence looks forward to learning how she can better support this community.

Madeleine Skinner, U3, Cultural Studies & Hispanic Studies 

Madeleine Skinner is a U3 arts student pursuing a double major in Cultural Studies and Hispanic Studies. This summer, she will be an intern with the PETA Latino, working alongside the communications and media departments. This summer she will be a Citizen Engagement Education Intern with Éduconnexion, an independent organization, that offers educational resources and support for civic engagement, both locally and internationally. Bhavva Kalra, U1, International Development Studies & Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies 

Bhavya Kalra is a U1 student majoring in International Development and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. This summer, she will intern at Pinay Quebec, an organization that champions the rights of Filipina domestic workers and caregivers. During the internship, she will engage closely with the community, developing tailored capacity-building initiatives and collaborating with stakeholders to design custom training programs. This experience will enhance her professional growth and reinforce a commitment to the arts and social advocacy.

Eliza Miron, U2, Psychology

Eliza Miron is finishing her second-year pursuing a B.A. in Psychology with a double minor in Hispanic Studies and Behavioural Science. During the summer 2024, she will be interning at the Institute of Human Development and Wellbeing (IHDW) at McGill University, a transdisciplinary research unit led by the Faculty of Education. She is looking forward to working with Dr. Claudia Mitchell and the lab’s work on the role that leadership and policy making has on human development.

She will intern for More Than Words, a McGill based research group dedicated to community work with indigenous youth and their adult allies to combat gender-based violence. Ava is a U3 student in History Honours and Religious Studies. This summer, Ava will be interning with the International Appalachian Trail (IAT) in Portland, Maine. She will be supporting the IAT in creating an archive at the Maine Historical society and helping to tell the story of the Trail. Having worked as a tree planter and canoe-trip guide for the past few summers, this internship brings together Ava’s academic and personal interests.

Amelie Pasco, U3, Geography 

Amélie (she/her) is finishing her third year in Geography with a double minor in Political Science and Field Studies. She is interested in conducting community-based research to support bottom-up policy initiatives in fields like sustainability and Indigenous land rights. This summer, she will be working at Brunswick Topsham Land Trust as an environmental intern, giving her a chance to gain valuable experience in community involvement while developing her skills in GIS and place-based education.

Chloé Sandanakichenane, U3, Political Science & International Development Studies 

Currently a third-year political science and international development joint honours student, Chloé is passionate about reading and making good, informative journalism. Her writing has been published in renowned media such as ELLE France. She will be interning at the Huffington Post France, and will cover a wide range of social and political issues. As a former Opinion Editor of The Tribune, she hopes to both use her experience reporting as a student journalist and learn new skills in a professional environment. 

Zoe Davidson, U3, Sociology 

Zoe, a third-year student at McGill University, is majoring in sociology, communications, and urban planning. Currently interning in communications at Special Olympics Canada, she's dedicated to promoting inclusion and empowerment through sports. With Special Olympics Canada's mission to enrich the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and athletic competition, Zoe is excited to contribute to their efforts in fostering acceptance and respect for all. 

Tatiana Povoroznyuk, M1, Information Studies

Tatiana is pursuing a Master of Information Studies with a specialization in archives at McGill and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia with majors in anthropology and art history. She will be interning with Jardin des Métis to assist with a project concerning Indigenous architecture along the banks of the Saint Lawrence River, during which she will perform archival research at various institutions to collect primary visual sources.

Kirstine Kang, U3, Economics 

Kirstine is entering her fourth and final year at McGill University. She is pursuing a major in Economics and a double minor in Management and Education. This summer, Kirstine will be working as an associate consultant intern at Nemo Partners SCG. Her main tasks will include conducting initial quantitative analysis, supporting the team in planning and executing business projects, and producing comprehensive field research. Leo Hertzler is a second year Jewish Studies major with minors in Anthropology and Religious Studies. Leo will be going to Krakow, Poland to intern with the Galicia Jewish Museum as his focus is Eastern European Judaism. Ryan Kent, U1, Political Science

Ryan is a first-year student pursuing an Honours Political Science Degree with a minor in East Asian Studies. This summer, he will be interning at the Albert Einstein Institution, an international NGO that seeks to generate peaceful regime change from dictatorship to democracy by disseminating research on non-violent resistance methods and supporting activists in authoritarian countries. Through this opportunity, Ryan is looking forward to learning about democratic struggles and contributing to interdisciplinary research and social action on this issue.

Plem Kijamba, U2, Honors International Development Studies & Political Science 

Plem will be interning at the UNHCR (Montréal office), which is the UN Refugee Agency, with a mandate to provide international protection to refugees and to work with states for durable solutions to the problem of refugees. As an intern, Plem will contribute to the advancement of research on protection of minors, detention, and border issues, represent UNHCR at awareness-raising events, etc. This is also an opportunity for Plem to learn more about international legal frameworks that protect refugees and how they can be upheld.

This summer, she will intern at Cowley Abbott Fine Art, joining a team of art specialists and inventory managers to assist with the daily pre- and post-sale duties involved in monthly online auctions and annual live auctions. She will be assisting with gallery administration including cataloguing, database entry and management, and research for artworks on consignment including provenance and exhibition history.

Sara Saleem Daredia, U2, International Development Studies 

Sara Saleem Daredia, a U2 student majoring in International Development with a minor in Environment, will intern with Ibex Media Network (IMN) in Pakistan. As an intern at Ibex Media Network (IMN), Sara will serve as a pivotal link between the media outlet and environmental and social development partners like the Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP), the Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency (GB-EPA), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Her responsibilities will include assessing and reporting on Community-based Block Plantation Projects' impact, creating educational videos on farming technologies, and advocating for climate awareness through various media. Sara’s role merges academic knowledge with practical application in climate change mitigation and sustainable development

Theo (he/him) is a Joint-Honors student in Political Science and African Studies. He will be interning at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Center in Ecuador remotely over the summer. The UNHCR Ecuador aims to help the integration of refugees coming into Ecuador looking for better opportunities. As communication intern, Theo will be responsible for the UNHCR’s social media pages, website updates, and newsletters. He hopes to deepen his understanding of political apparatuses with regards to NGOs like the UN and contribute to the efforts of the UNHCR’s efforts in Ecuador.

Kadia St-Pierre, U0, History & Anthropology

Kadia is a History and Anthropology student who is passionate about museum work and archaeology, with a particular focus on collaboration with Indigenous descendent communities. This summer, she will intern in the curatorial department of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Her internship will be part of the museum's ongoing efforts to document its collection of Indigenous works and build relationships with source communities.

Chloe Le, U2, Psychology 

Chloe Le is a third-year student at McGill who is pursuing a major in Psychology and a double minor in Behavioral Science and Marketing. This summer, she will intern at the Regent Park Film Festival Organization, which is Toronto’s longest-running, free community film festival. She is excited to work as an Operations and Logistics intern and will take part in planning, marketing and executing the organization’s annual summer film screening series, Under the Starts (UTS).

Serena Zhang, U2, East Asian Studies & Political Science

Carl Cenerelli, U3, History 

Carl Cenerelli is a third-year student pursuing an honours degree in history with a minor in translation. This summer, he will be an intern at Science Po’s archives, in Paris, where he will be sorting an archival fonds. Concurrently, he will have the opportunity to meet and cooperate with a number of archivists. He is excited to work hands-on with historical documents and to take a dive into French political history.

William Dufour, U1, Political Science & History

William is a second-year student pursuing a B.A. in History and Political Science with a minor in World Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. This summer, he will work with the Canadian Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna. She’ll be completing her first internship at the Office of Congresswoman Lois Frankel this summer. Working as an intern for the US Congress provides her a chance to gain firsthand experience in the legislative process and comprehend the impact of domestic policies on international development efforts. Phoebe Holt-Reiss, U3, Political Science & Sociology 

Phoebe is a third-year Joint Honors Political Science and Sociology student. For the first half of the Summer, she will be interning remotely with Period Law to research access to menstrual products in US schools, and for the second half, she’ll be working in Congressman Eric Swalwell’s DC Office. She is excited to engage in legislative research and gain a dual perspective on policymaking from both the federal government and an NGO.

Arwen Low, U2, Political Science & Environment

Arwen Low is a U2 Joint Honors Environment and Political Science student. She is thrilled to start her internship at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the International Organizations in Vienna (VPERM) this Summer. This summer, she will intern with the Post-Conflict Research Center in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. PCRC is a non-governmental organization which aims to nurture an environment for sustainable peace and prosperity in ethnic conflict-ridden regions in the Balkans. With interests in post-socialist transition, conflict resolution, and international relations, she is excited for the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work towards community peace building and educational outreach on the prevention of mass atrocities.

As an independent think tank, CDDGhana performs evidence-based research and influences public policy to enhance peaceful and well-governed democracy in African nations. Sariah Hossain, U2, English & Psychology

Sariah Hossain is a U2 student double majoring in English Literature and Psychology. She has roots in Canada and California, where the saltwater air dizzied her, and so Montreal called her back. Her background is in journalism, publishing, writing, and editing, and her passion for the written word underscores all her endeavors. She will be interning at Véhicule Press, where she will work closely with industry professionals to transform manuscripts into tangible, polished books in readers’ hands.

Thelma Caye, U2, Political Science 

Thelma Caye, a second-year Political Science major with minors in Hispanic and Communication Studies, is set to join the NGO Solidarité Colombie-Québec based in Santa Marta, Colombia. As an educational project development assistant, she'll teach English to children and teenagers, and she will help the women's association in their projects towards greater autonomy. Thelma looks forward to honing her teaching skills, deepening her language proficiency, and supporting women's autonomy. Immersed in Cristo Rey's community life, she'll document her journey, enhancing her communication expertise and contributing to the NGO's outreach.

Mahi Kandage, U3, Environment & International Development Studies 

Mahi Kandage is a U3 Environment and Development student whose work centres around global health, child advocacy, and social policy. She will intern at Chordiya Nursing Home over the summer in her hometown of Pune, India, aiming to observe the experiences of women and children in urban Maharashtra. She hopes to build upon her previous research work in psycho-oncology and collective action problems by exploring the factors at play in increasing equitable access to women’s reproductive health services. 

Celine Li, U1, Economics 

As a first-year Bachelor of Arts undergraduate student majoring in Economics with minors in Political Science and Sociology, Celine is dedicated to amplifying and empowering the voices at the heart of social movements. With an unwavering eagerness to use her education for emancipation, she will intern at Foundation for Media Alternatives, a non-profit organization based in Quezon City, in the Philippines. With an overarching purpose of optimizing technologies for sustainable development, her key responsibilities consist of advocating for strategic and responsible use of ICTs and conducting research on gender-based disparities between citizens’ access to digital information. This internship profoundly resonates with her fervent desire to gain a deeper understanding of the global inequalities that permeate our world but are too often rendered invisible in the media.

Maria Lima Fernandes Reis, U2, Political Science & International Development Studies 

Passionate about political and socio-economic justice, Maria will have the opportunity to intern with Rotary International’s District 4391 in her home country, Brazil. Hoping to pursue a career focused on development and international relations, Maria is thrilled to work at such a global and influential non-profit. Mar Oromi Llobet, U3, Political Science 

I’m a U3 student pursuing an honors degree in political science and a minor in philosophy. I grew up in Barcelona, and have lived in Montreal for 3 years, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work for the United Nations Population Fund this summer in Panama. I look forward to contributing to the regional office's mission of guaranteeing reproductive rights across the continent during my internship at the communications unit.

Othmane Souissi, U3, Political Science & International Development Studies 

Othmane Souissi is a Moroccan student pursuing an Honours degree in Political Science and International Development Studies. This summer, he will intern at the Permanent Delegation of Morocco to the UNESCO in Paris. After his experience advocating for civil society at the UN, he is looking forward to exploring the national dimension of international advocacy. Through his passion for languages and cultures, he will contribute to the Moroccan mission on different aspects related to heritage promotion, while gaining diplomatic insights and training in the context of the UNESCO.  

Rhianna Spencer-Moore, U2, History 

Rhianna Spencer-Moore is a third-year student in History and Psychology. This summer she will be interning at the United Nations World Food Programme's Latin American and Caribbean regional branch in Panama City, Panama. Rhianna hopes to apply the perspectives she acquired on food security through completing the Panama Field Studies Semester towards her work with the communication team this summer.

Auxane Bussac is a second-year McGill Political Science major, also double minoring in Sociology and Psychology. This summer, she will be serving as a Canadian Program Intern for Equitas – The International Centre for Human Rights Education, an organization dedicated to fostering more equitable and inclusive communities through nationwide programming addressing discrimination, empowering youth facing barriers, and engaging decision-makers. Sarah is eager to contribute to Equitas’ program management, communication projects, and the development of educational tools.

Cristina Gandasegui Amador, U1, Sustainability, Science & Society 

Cristina Gandásegui is entering her third year at McGill University, where she is pursuing a degree in Sustainability, Science, and Society with a minor in Communication Studies. This summer, she will be interning at Climate Reality Project and working with Atlantic Canada Climate Network to create a database of climate-awareness initiatives located in Canada’s Atlantic coast and providing them with resources and connections to continue their projects. Cristina is passionate about environmental conservation, writing, and community outreach and is excited to combine them all during her internship.

Charlotte Power, U3, Political Science 

Charlotte Power is a fourth-year student pursuing a major in Political Science, and minors in International Development and French. This summer, she will be an intern at The Upstream Journal. As a writer for different publications on campus, Charlotte is excited to continue her human rights and social justice advocacy. She looks forward to empowering others through education, activism, and honest journalism, by contributing to an organization that is in line with her passions and professional goals.

Lauren Kandalaft, U3, International Development Studies 

Lauren Kandalaft is a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a major in International Development and minors in Communication Studies and Social Entrepreneurship. This summer, she will be serving as a Citizen Engagement Education Intern at Éduconnexion in Montreal. Throughout her internship within this non-governmental organization, she will work towards fulfilling Éduconnexion's mission by participating in projects seeking to support marginalized communities and assisting the organization in its creation of communication and educational tools.

Ivan Manca, U2, Political Science

Ivan is a third-year student majoring in Political Science with minors in Sociology and Italian Studies. Ivan is originally from Burlington, Ontario and is a proud Argentinian, upholding his heritage and family ties. He is extremely excited to be taking part this summer at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Guatemala. There, Ivan will be working on transforming text-based communications into compelling graphic design materials, translating material for a broader audience, aligning with UNHCR’s global branding and messaging, and so much more. Ivan is looking forward to this great opportunity and cannot wait to work and apply his skills here, along with learning more about this working environment.
