AIDS Community Care Montreal (ACCM)

About the Organizations: 

ACCM is a volunteer-based community organization working to enhance the quality of life of people living with HIV or hep C, to prevent transmission, and to promote community awareness and action.

Activity Description: 

We'll be needed a few volunteers to help us clean up from previous large events and prepare for our future ones:

Day 1: HIV 101 and Condom Packing

Day 2: ArtSIDA Clean Up

Day 3: Admin Office Reorganization

Day 4: Food Prep for Future Dinner and Discussions


Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre

About the Organization: Since 1927, Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre has provided empowering educational programming for residents of Little Burgundy from birth through adulthood. Their aim is to ensure that each member of their community has the opportunity and skills needed to realize their potential. / Strives to improve academic and social skills, promote personal development and encourage success with the families and the children we work with.

Activity Description: 

We receive many children for out March Break Camp and would love to get your help supporting this program through activities with children!


The House of Friendship

About the Organization: The House of Friendship is a non-profit community centre offering French, English and Spanish language classes, a community residence for students, a farmer's market, community activities based on peace-building and artistic expression, as well as renting space to other organizations.

Activity Description: 

Monday students would help with light building maintenance such as cleaning, organizing and maybe even painting! Tuesday through Thursday students would be in charge of language class registration, which involves explaining things to new students, helping with placement tests, taking payments, writing receipts and entering data.

Special Notes: French is an asset.


St-James Drop-In Centre

About the Organization: The St-James Drop-In Centre offers a safe and supportive environment where those who are marginalized and/or homeless can experience community to its fullest. The Centre seeks to be a catalyst for the flow of creativity, compassion, and empathy.

Activity Description: 

The kitchen is the hub of the centre and can always use some menu input and extra hands. Join them in planning and preparing the daily meals, including grocery shopping. Students will make and serve breakfast, prepare and serve lunch, and plan and begin preparations for dinner. The first day will include an orientation to the organization and especially its kitchen!


Welcome Hall Mission

About the Organization: Welcome Hall Mission actively works at reducing the poverty, loneliness and despair, which are unfortunately widespread in Montreal even if not always visible to the naked eye. 

Activity Description: 

Project #1 Welcome Hall Market (free grocery store)

What: Customer service to our Market clients

Where: Welcome Hall Market– 4755 Acorn (Door D) in St-Henri

When: Tuesday & Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. or 12:45 to 3 p.m. / Thursday: 12:45 to 4 p.m.or 3:45 to 7 p.m.

Information: Imagine a configuration that looks more like a grocery store than a line-up for food! We provide and feed 4000+ clients a week / over 19,000+ clients a month with free groceries.

Project #2 Food Triage & Distribution

What: Sorting of food donations

Where: Warehouse of Welcome Hall Mission – 4755 Acorn (Door D) in St-Henri

When: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday: 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 12:45 to 3 p.m. / Thursday: 12:45 to 4 p.m.

Information: Volunteers will be assigned to various tasks including sorting packaged meat in our refrigerators, sorting of fruits and vegetables, sorting of clothing donations, replenishment of our Market (free grocery store), etc…


Share the Warmth

About the Organization: Share the Warmth is a community group that works to fight hunger and poverty and awaken hopes and dreams. A host of programs foster the overall development, education and success of youth, increase access to food security and offer work training.

Activity Description: 

Day 1: Help out at the Food Bank.

Day 2 to 4: A flexible schedule of volunteering in the café, kitchen, boutique, or other tasks, as the organization may need.

Special Notes: Bilingualism is an asset. 


The Depot Community Food Centre (NDG Food Depot)

About the Organization: The NDG Food Depot works collaboratively with other community partners to address issues of food security in NDG and the surrounding areas.

Their objectives are to reduce the hardship of living in poverty by:

  • improving food security for people with insufficient income,
  • increasing access to healthy food,
  • alleviating social isolation and fostering social integration of all community members,
  • educating the public at large about issues of poverty and hunger.

Special Notes: They are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with good interpersonal skills. Bilingualism is an asset. 
 


Open Door

About the Organizations: 

The Open Door is a drop-in centre providing services to homeless and low-income people in downtown Montreal. The centre provides food and clothing, laundry services, shelter during the day, counselling, referrals to professional mental health and drug addiction counsellors, and employment assistance. The Open Door also helps its clients obtain medical assistance, free prescription eyeglasses, haircuts, and assistance in coping with gambling, alcohol or substance abuse.

Activity Description: 

Volunteers will assist with daily operations of the centre. Tasks vary daily, but typically include: food prep, food service, reception, donation sorting/organizing, and general clean tasks.

Les Petits Frères

L’organisme Les Petits Frères accueille et accompagne les personnes seules du grand âge, afin de contrer leur isolement, en créant autour d’elles une famille engagée et fidèle jusqu’à la fin de leur vie.

The mission of Les Petits Frères is to welcome and provide support to lonely elders by creating a caring, committed extended family around them dedicated to alleviating their isolation and staying by their side throughout their remaining years.

Activity Description: 

Triage et mise en marché à la boutique Friperie. / Sorting and marketing at the Friperie boutique.

Native Montreal (Volunteering spots are full!)

About the Organizations: 

Native Montreal is an Indigenous community centre with a diverse range of programs and services for Montreal's Indigenous population. We are a member organization of the Regroupement des centres d’amitié autochtones du Québec and the National Association of Friendship Centres.

Activity Description: 

Native Montreal is seeking volunteer camp animators for our Iorahkote Day Camp (March break edition) for Indigenous children ages 5 to 12. Volunteer camp animators will support Native Montreal staff in carrying out the camp's daily activities and programming, including fun cultural and land-based learning experiences.

Other Requirements: Experience working with children a requirement (prospective volunteers should explain the context of their experiences). Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and histories an asset (volunteer training will include a focus on this).

Chez Doris

About the Organizations: 

Chez Doris est un organisme de bienfaisance offrant un refuge de jour, sept jours sur sept, pour les femmes en difficulté. La maison leur fournit des repas, un répit, des vêtements, des activités sociaux-récréatives et des services pratiques dans un environnement sécuritaire et accueillant.

Chez Doris offers daytime shelter for all women in difficulty. The house provides meals, respite, clothing, socio-recreational activities, and practical assistance, all in a secure and accepting environment.

Activity Description: 

Les bénévoles auront l'opportunité de servir les déjeuners et les dîner. Ils pourront cuisiner des muffins pour les femmes de Chez Doris et organiser les dons dans notre sous-sol. (sous réserve de modifications)

Volunteers will have the opportunity to serve lunch and dinner. They will also have the opportunity to bake muffins for Chez Doris women and organize donations in our basement. (tasks subject to change)
