IMSF, an experiential leadership development initiative, has been instrumental in shaping the careers of Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) students for years. By merging academic learning with practical projects in research and sustainability, the Fellowship prepares students for impactful careers in data science and beyond.

This year, Chloe You and Ruo-Ying exemplify the transformative journey IMSF offers, marking substantial contributions to our projects and the broader data science community.
Chloe You, a third year student studying Finance and Statistics, shares her journey:
"My journey with the DataSphere Lab, as part of the Integrated Management Student Fellowship, has been transformative. I’ve sharpened my marketing and data analytics skills, contributing to the DataSphere Lab’s growth by enhancing service awareness and building the DataBank. This opportunity has been a practical extension of my academic studies, providing me with invaluable exposure to real-world applications and collaborative innovation within the burgeoning field of data analytics."
Ruo-Ying, a Business Analytics major, reflects on her experience:
"Throughout my year at the DataSphere Lab as an Integrated Management Student Fellowship (IMSF) fellow, I had the chance to make a meaningful contribution to this innovative project. My role in marketing and laying the groundwork for the DataBank's future growth enhanced my ability to transform overarching business strategies into detailed plans and turn them into reality.
Interacting with students, professors, and industry professionals, alongside my work with diverse data sets, made this an enriching journey. It was rewarding to see the collective efforts contribute significantly to the DataSphere Lab's rapid expansion."
Dedicated Contributions to the DataSphere Lab's Mission
Chloe You and Ruo-Ying Qi’s work primarily focused on two critical areas: raising awareness of the DataSphere Lab's services and investigating unique datasets for the central data repository. Through their marketing strategies and outreach, they successfully increase the lab’s visibility across academic and industry channels by delivering promotional speeches, facilitating seminars, and supporting the launch of a significant campaign, directly impacting the reach and engagement with the lab.
In parallel with these efforts, Chloe and Ruo-Ying worked diligently on data collection and analysis. They investigated unique datasets, which involved data indexing to organize, transform, and load (ETL) into the central data repository. Their work supported the DataSphere Lab's commitment to offering a rich foundation for data-driven research and practical innovation. Their achievements directly align with the DataSphere Lab's mission to solve Analytics/AI use cases for industry, students, and researchers. By specializing in industry verticals, starting with Retail, and building a process for the community to learn more about data, analytics, and AI, they have contributed to creating the lab's reputation as a center for analytics learning and development.
