A permit must be obtained from the Fire Prevention Office for the temporary use of McGill private hydrants on the downtown and Macdonald Campuses. The permit authorisation is an attempt at limiting possible injury or property damages and at reducing the risk of public water supply contamination. Hydrants must remain accessible at all times for their primary role, fire-fighting operations.

Only McGill plumbers are allowed to do the handling of the hydrants.

With this permit, authorisation is given to the requestor to temporarily connect their hose to the gate valve installed on the hydrant butt by our plumber and to open and close this valve only to obtain water. The requestor/project will then make a request for a work order at fod.fcc [at] mcgill.ca with his approved permit, at his cost.

No hydrant permits are allocated during the frost period.
