Service Eligibility

Who has access to our services? The eligibility requirements depend on your student status.

Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Students

All full-time, part-time, visiting, and exchange degree students at McGill are eligible to use all of our services, including myFuture, free of charge.

If you are not currently enrolled, or are planning to transition in or out of studies, please visit Student Services Fee website for information on services available to you.

What access do I have after graduation?

  • After graduation: Alumni* can continue to use most of our services and the public area of the CaPS website for free up to one year after the end of the last semester in which they paid their Student Services fees. (For example, if April 2021 is your last semester, you will have access to the services till April 2022).
  • For the second and third years following the graduation: Alumni may opt-in to CaPS services by paying $ 70.00 + taxes PER TERM**
  • Three years after graduation: All the in-office services (e.g. one-on-one advising, CV review, checking out books) are no longer available. However, other services (e.g. myFuture, the public area of the CaPS website) are still available.

*Alumni have access to all of our services except Information Sessions and On-Campus Recruitment Campaigns (which are reserved for current graduating students), and the Mentoring / Job Shadowing Programs.

**There are 3 terms per academic year. The timeframes of these terms are:

  • September to December
  • January to April
  • May to August

Payment Information

To make a payment, please contact the CaPS office.  We accept the payment via e-transfer. We do not accept credit card, debit card, cheque or cash.

School of Continuing Studies Students

Continuing Studies (CS) students who wish to access CaPS services are required to pay a fee. CS students may opt-in to Student Services (as a package) if they are registered for 9 credits or more in the current term. For more information on how to opt-in and pay the fee: Student Services Fee

Post-Doctoral Fellows

All post-doctoral fellows are eligible to use all of our services, including myFuture, free of charge only while you are enrolled at McGill.

McGill Alumni

McGill Alumni who graduated with either a Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. degree are eligible to have access for life to the myFuture job search and career tools suite free of charge.

What access do alumni have?

  1. How to Register for myFuture

McGill Alumni, regardless of degree, are eligible to have access for life to myFuture. To acces, you must register first.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated in May 2007 or later)

You should already have a profile in myFuture. Go to: myFuture and sign in. If you have any difficulty, call CaPS at 514-398-3304.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated BEFORE May 2007)

Alumni who graduated before May 2007 must register in order to create their own profiles in myFuture. Some faculties have their own career centres which have different policies regarding service to alumni, so please send an email to the appropriate link below to register:

Note: In your email, include your full name, McGill ID number, Faculty, year of graduation and major, email address, current mailing address and phone number.

Other employment centres

The following organizations outside McGill also provide employment services similar to McGill CaPS.

  • YES Montreal
    This is an English-language service provider that has been helping Qubecers find employment and start their own businesses.  Services include: workshops and consultation to young adults (ages 16-35), entrepreneurs and artists.
  • Local employment centre locator (CLE)
    This site allows you to locate employment centres near you.  There are 150+ CLEs and service points located throughout the 17 regions of Québec.
