CDO Basics
- What can the CDO offer me?
The CDO has several helpful resources.
-
Website: The website provides an overview of CDO services, career and application resources, and career search tips. https://www.mcgill.ca/cdo/
-
12Twenty: 12Twenty, which all students can log into, is a comprehensive portal which includes records of info sessions, guides covering organized recruit to lists of law firms to application materials tips. You can also find and register for events, coffee chats, and career appointments on 12Twenty.
-
Newsletter: The weekly newsletter includes timely updates including select job postings, information about upcoming organized recruitment processes, and
- How do I make an appointment?
Appointments are generally booked via the 12twenty portal, via the “Appointments” tab on the left navigation panel. If you are not able to find a time/date that works with your schedule within 2-3 weeks, please email cdo.law [at] mcgill.ca with the subject of the appointment (Interview Prep/Recruitment Decision/General Career Advising/ etc.) and some suggestions for availabilities and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
- What are the CDO offices hours?
We are available all business days during standard business hours. The most likely day to find all of us working physically in the office is Wednesday.
Event Assistance
- I missed the registration deadline for an event, can you please register me?
Sometimes we might be able to, however the deadlines are often set for a specific reason closely linked to the management of the event on the “back end”, and therefore we can’t always accommodate late registrations. Please email cdo.law [at] mcgill.ca to inquire whether we can assist you for that event or not. We encourage you to always check the registration deadlines carefully, and to watch 12twenty for new events frequently so you don't miss any opportunities.
- I can no longer attend an event I registered for; can you please unregister me?
Please start by checking to see if the registration window is still open /active in the 12twenty event posting as you may be able to unregister yourself. If not, please email cdo.law [at] mcgill.ca as soon as possible and let us know which event (title, date, etc.) and a quick explanation of why you can no longer attend. Ideally, we hope not to make any changes to event registration within 48-hours of the event, however we do understand that sometimes life happens, and we would rather be informed in advance as much as possible to see if perhaps another student is interested and able to take your place.
- How can our student club/association event be added to 12twenty?
Email cdo.law [at] mcgill.ca and include the following information (as well as any documents/links/visuals, if applicable): Event title, Date and Time, location of event, if registration is required + the maximum # of attendees permitted, dress attire (Casual, Business Casual, Business Smart, or Business Professional), a description of the event, which student groups are permitted to attend (BCL/JD, LLM, DCL, Recent Graduates)
Newsletter
- The link in the newsletter is broken, can you please send me the link?
If the link is for something in 12twenty, please try searching through the jobs/events/resource materials first within the 12twenty site. If the link is for something outside of 12twenty, please try Googling it first 😊 if neither of these options are successful, email cdo.law [at] mcgill.ca with information about the link that isn’t working.
- How can our club/association have our event advertised in the newsletter (and/or advertise and collect registration in 12twenty)?
To have your event added to the CDO newsletter, email cdo.law [at] mcgill.ca with the event name, the date and time, and where the event is taking place, and a link for how to register (if applicable). Additionally, you can include a graphic and a short description/write up about the event. The deadline to have you event advertised in the newsletter is Thursday (for it to be included in that week’s issue).
