The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Montréal (CIRM) is inviting applications for the position of Professor of Practice. Created thanks to a donation from the McConnell Foundation, this position will enable a professional recognized in his/her field of practice to carry out research and knowledge transfer activities in collaboration with CIRM members and local and international partners. Depending on availability, the person selected at the end of the process will take part in the Centre's work between March 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. This position is renewable.
Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Montréal (CIRM)
CIRM's mission is 1) to stimulate research in Montréal Studies and to federate research carried out in different disciplines and universities; 2) to develop partnerships, themes, and basic and applied research projects with Montreal's social, cultural, community, economic and government circles. It fulfills this mission to contribute to the creation, in the metropolitan context, of resilient, sustainable, and inclusive living environments, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At McGill University, a Professor of Practice is a professional who has made a major contribution to his or her field or discipline, and who engages primarily (during his or her time at the university) in activities related to sharing his or her practice, methods and community values within a faculty, research center or department.
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Montréal highly values the contribution of its practicing professors. They enrich CIRM's contribution to Montréal's vitality and create links between members, communities, and practice environments, both locally and internationally.
Typical Duration
A full-time position can last a minimum of 15 weeks, the equivalent of one university term. A half-time position can last up to nine months. Between full-time and half-time positions, several formulas can be envisaged, depending on CIRM's needs and the availability of the successful candidate.
Compensation
A salary of $50,000.
Location
Depending on the health context and the advice of Public Health, the successful candidate may occupy a workspace in CIRM's offices, located at 680 Sherbrooke Street West, 8th floor, Montréal. McGill's office attendance policy is three days a week for full-time employees and two days a week for part-time employees.
CIRM's strategic direction for 2024
CIRM wishes to encourage research-creation and deepen its collaboration with the Montreal Comic Arts Festival (MCAF). The MCAF's mission is to promote comics by becoming a platform for convergence and reference, and a meeting place for players in the field and their audiences. It aims to enhance the place of comics in the cultural universe, while becoming a crossroads between Europe and America in its capacity as a professional, bilingual, and unifying organization.
Requirements
To apply, you must:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or obtain the appropriate visa;
- have at least ten years' experience in the field of comics (mandatory), illustration and/or storyboarding;
- a commitment to carry out a creative project in collaboration with CIRM on the broad theme of the neighborhood or neighborhood life;
- have a sufficient command of French and English to enable the selected candidate to participate actively in discussions and activities in both languages.
Selection and timetable

- Evaluation of applications and, where appropriate, interviews with finalists: end of January 2024
- Announcement of results: early February 2024

- Letter of intent, including anticipated contribution to CRIEM's work;
- Description of artistic project (maximum 2-3 single-spaced pages);
- CV (experience, achievements, publications, grants obtained);
- One (1) letter of recommendation;

- Experience, achievements and recognition obtained;
- Relevance of the project to the orientations and conditions defined in this document;
- Interest in and proven capacity for interdisciplinary, intersectoral and collaborative work.
The selection committee will be made up of three people (two from CIRM and one from MCAF).
