From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to McGill students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

Young People Stop Just Texting Me And Give Me A Call Once In A While! PLZ Part Deux

This week is the 20th anniversary of the 1st text. As a middle aged person I have mixed feeling about this. I can’t decide if it’s got worst or maybe better. This week I got messages by text, email, Twitter, Facebook, voice mail, phone, cell phone, in person and a fax! The fax brought back some fond memories – it’s been a while.

… OgilvyOne CEO Brian Fetherstonhaugh (BCom’79), says, “I talk to several thousand people in their 20′s every year. I often make a point about texting and e-mail, ‘How many people have solved a difficult emotional topic via e-mail or text?’ So far, I haven’t found a single one.” 

… My colleagues Henry Mintzberg and Peter Todd talked about the importance of tone and gestures in a recent article in Strategy + Business, “Managing is not a science; it is a subtle and nuanced practice, learned mostly on the job, through paying close attention to gestures and tone of voice.
