In the aftermath of the tragic death of 16-year-old Jannai Dopwell-Bailey, who was stabbed outside of his school, McGill Education's Dr. Bronwen Low (DISE) and Dr. Jessica Ruglis (ECP) have collabourated with community-based colleagues in writing an opinion piece for CTV News about how sensational journalism seems to validate racism and prejudice instead of working to educate the public.
According to an article in the Journal de Montréal, 40% of aspiring teachers drop out or change career paths. The article only sites the impact in Quebec's French universities (i.e. Université Laval, Université de Sherbrooke, Université de Montréal, and UQAM), but CJAD 800 Radio reached out to find out how McGill Education students are faring, given the situation in the French sector.
Rachel Langevin, Assistant Professor in Counselling Psychology at McGill, co-wrote an article for The Conversation with Martine Hébert, Professor, Department of Sexology from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) on how the #MeToo movement has not included young children who have been sexually abused and how their voices are rarely heard in the public sphere.

DISE Course Lecturer, Sabrina Jafralie, weighs in on Quebec’s new Culture and Quebec Citizenship course that will replace Ethics and Religious Culture in interviews with the CBC and in The Suburban.
Jafralie says she's worried voices from different communities that make up Quebec society will be muted in the new curriculum.
"When this new program was being developed, whose voices are part of this development? Is there an Indigenous voice developed? Is there an Anglo voice developed? Are there racialized communities? Are there people from the LGBTQIA+?'' Jafralie asked.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of Mr. Joseph A. Hackett. Joe had a long career as a school teacher and, since retirement, had been working as a student teaching Field Supervisor for our Faculty for more than 15 years. Joe leaves behind a significant and impressive legacy of mentorship, having supported hundreds of students and future teachers.
